Subject: Bigger Tire 2WD pics! IP: Logged
Message: I see a lot of posts asking what sizes fit on a stock height 2WD truck. I also had a ton of questions too until I finally measured and pulled the trigger on some 265/70R15 upsized from my stock 235/75R15.
On paper these are actually 3cm wider (a bit over an inch) and about 5/8" taller (diameter). I measured an increased ride height of exactly 3/4" but that was going from almost bald to brand new so treadlife had a lot to do with the increase.
The new tires come within about an inch and half of rubbing on the front wheel well when turned to the closest spot. I THINK this means one could go a LITTLE larger such as the 31x10.5 R15 which are a full inch taller at about the same width. This theoretically should still leave 1/2 inch or so between the tire and the well.
Keep in mind this is all for the 2000 4x2 (2WD) club cab with the hauling package (15x8 wheels).

Message: I don't know the actual dimensions, but there seems to be a significant stock height (and wheel well?) difference between the 4x2 and 4x4, or at least it seems so on my 01 4x4 QC. I'm running LT265/75/R16's, with at least 1.5" clearance all around with the brand new tires straight.

Message: Yes, indeed there is about a 3-4" height advantage on the 4x4 which is why it's so important to mention which you have when talking tires. The wheel wells are identical, but they have the equivelent of a suspension lift over the 4x2.

Message: Hi,
I have a 2000 4x2 QC that I just bought new tires for. I tried to go with 31s but they rubbed pretty badly on the front. Anyway I went with 30-9.50R-15s BFG All Terrains. I like the look of them.

Message: I ran 31x10.50x15's on my stock Dakota 15" rims and stock suspension for almost 2 years with no rubbing other than when I hit the occasional huge pothole.
Regular driving and even railroad tracks were never an issue that caused rubbing.

Message: I had 30x9.50x15s on my truck last yr and was gonna put 31x10.50s. It is a 97 EC 2wd. I was thinking about putting on a 3" body lift and running 31x11x15s in a few months but now I'm selling the truck.

Message: I wonder why one 4x2 would have rubbing problems with the 31's and another doesn't. Like I mentioned in my first post, based on how my 265/70R15s fit, I think 31's would just barely make it. I think the difference might be in the load handling package. I'm honestly just guessing but I believe the load package adds a bit of ride height due to heavier springs.
It might also have something to do with which stock wheels you have. The load handling option upsided the rims to 8" wide. I've read that rim width affects the overall tire width but NOT diameter. So just to be clear I have:
2000 Club Cab
4.7 5speed
load handling option
15x8 rims
*265/70R15 fits like a breeze
*30x9.5R15 is almost exactly the same size as 265/70R15 but they usually carry a lower load rating so probably not recommended if you have the hauling package.
*31x10.5R15 will PROBABLY fit with little or no rubbing.
PS: this has nothing to do with 4x4 Daks.
Bobby ;-)
