Subject: 2x4 Wheels on a 4x4 IP: Logged
Message: I have an opportunity to put some nice chrome wheels from a Durango on my Dakota. The durango was a 2x4 and I'm a 4x4 dakota. The wheels are the same bolt pattern, but does it matter that they are not from a 4x4. I wouldn't think so, but just curious what you might think. my current size wheels and tires are 265/70/16 and it has the eagle LS 255/65/r16. Thoughts anyone...

Message: Those tires will look tiny on your 4x4.
Also those Eagle LS are crappy tires...the tread life on them is horrible....on the positive side your truck will ride much nicer with those tires.
I know because I did the same thing...

Message: Could someone define "horrible tread life" specific to the Eagle LS tire? I have rotated mine every 6K miles and at 48K miles I still have enough tread to remain legal for a good many more miles to come. I'm pleased with their longevity based on the fact that this is a pickup truck and I use it to haul/tow stuff.
I don't spin the tires (OK, once in while - it's hard not to have a little fun), and don't corner hard to scrub the edges. Maybe most of people's bad experiences stem from this kind of driving style?
Although they don't grip the road as well as other tires they are decent (to me) for OEM purposes. But they really don't hold too well on wet roads now. That makes me drive differently now that we are getting our once-in-seven year rainstorms in SoCal.
Am I just lucky, or are most people expecting too much of these tires?
