Subject: Wax Problems!?! IP: Logged
Message: As most of you probably do, I like to wax my truck every once a week after I wash her. Well, the problems is that sometimes I get wax on the door handles or the side mirrors. I had this same problem with my 2000, but since this one is an 04 Im pretty pissed off about it. So after it drys, it leaves white streakes everywhere or white markings. I've try a few things to have it come off, but nothing works, it always comes back. Any tricks that work? Any info is greatly appreicated. Thanx

Another problem that can be a little more difficult to remedy is an accidental smudge or streak of wax on a car's black trim (side mirrors and window seals). To effectively remove wax from these areas (figure D), try a tar and wax remover, available in automotive supply stores.
What all products have you tried? You can fix wax removal agents at hobby stores like hobby lobby or michaels, in the candle making section.

Message: The best thing that I have found in 36 years of trying to keep my vehicles looking good is Mothers back to black. It is the longest lasting of the trim protectors and doesn't hurt the finish. Some "protectants" actually hurt the finish. I have used it to take care of the problem you speak of. Also: A synthetic like Zaino brothers (on-line) does not leave any visible residue on trim. There are other synthetics, but I have never tried them. I put a post here once to find if anyone else has tried others but got no response. Try Mothers you won't be dissapointed. It is great stuff. I get at least 4 washings before I have to redo it.

Message: ALSO: I know I might get bashed for saying this, but NEVER EVER EVER use armorall on the tires. It is VERY BAD for tires and actually causes them to dry out faster. I use Goodyear Tire Care spray for the tires. It is the best I have found. I have never had a tire "crows-feet" (dry-rot)since using it. Go on-line (goodyear)to find a local distributor for your area. Around here it is $5.75 /can and lasts about 4-5 times applied. I usually wash the tires good with a brush and car soap, then when they dry I spray it on, brush it around with a wheel brush then lightly rinse. The first time you use it you will probably have to apply it twice, but from then on it takes once. For the motheres back to black I use a toothbrush to spread it into the smaller areas like the door handles. I daub it on with a cloth and spread to the edges with the brush so I dont get any on the paint. It won't hurt the paint but it stays greasy on paint. Don't apply too much either. It will only wash away onto the paint. For the tire spray, I cut a disk out of cardboard the size of the rim with a finger hole in the middle so I don't get any spray on my clean rims. that is the reason for the gentle rinse too. So it won't get on the rims and attract dirt.

Message: hee hee, and another thing. Geesh! Dawn dish-washing liguid is the best wax remover there is. Any dish detergent will remove wax from a car even a couple of drops in a gallon of water will remove some of it. Every spring I use dawn to strip all the polish from my truck and then I start over. I put one tablespoon to two gallons of water and wash regularly. No wax or polish left after that.

Message: ok ok last thing.... every week sounds like too much waxing. Have you tried using a finish enhancer like mequires to wipe the truck down with after washing and drying? It will look at least as good as waxing or polishing. Wax should be applied no more than once every couple of months. Polish (synthetic) can go for 9 months to a year -though I do mine twice a year, spring and fall. The finish enhancer is great stuff. I even use it right after I polish, in between coats of polish. Ok I will stop now lol

Message: You are right, the back to black is a great product. On my tires I use Westleys bleach white, I like the clean black look with out the shinny stuff.

Message: On the Westley's, been using it since the early 80's when I had wide white's on my lowered Cordoba.
Tip: Try a quick detailer type product between wax, like Meguires or Mothers. Just be carefull around the black parts is the best advice.
The ultimate solution is to paint the door handles to match (my last winter project), found the steps to take on this site. It was actualy how I found the site to begin with!

Message: Get one of those battery powered toothbrushes, apply a bit of water or window cleaner, and brush the wax spots with the toothbrush. A minute or two on each handle and it's gone.
Or,,, I've found that the newest NXT wax does not leave the wax spots on the black trim.
