Subject: Failure symptoms? IP: Logged
Message: I just purchased a used 01 4wd QCD with 56000 miles on it. After driving it for a couple of weeks I have noticed that the front end squeaks really bad. Sounds like dry rubber against metal or something. It also has a slight clunk sound when going over significant bumps. My second concern is that when I take off from a stop and then let off of the gas before it shifts, the transmission seems to have an abrupt clunk or a really hard upshift or downshift, I can't tell. Any suggestions or infor would be helpful. I'm taking it back to the dealer in two days to get looked at, and I would like some ammunition in case they give me the "I can't duplicate the problem" answer. The transmission didn't do this when I test drove it. Should have paid more attention to the squeak before I bought it.

Squeakin/clunking - ball joints. Just had the driver side joints replaced and from the sound of it I'm going to need the passenger side joints replaced soon.
Severely worn sway bar bushings can add to the noise. Mine are shot and the bar rattles in its mounts.
Lifting off the gas right before a shift seems to confuse the trans. It's like it can't figure out what gear to select then when it does it feels like it slams into gear.
anyone know what brand of u-joints Dodge installs in the driveshafts at the factory??
