finally dodge has jumped on the domestic bandwagon, with plans for a 2006 CHARGER... rumors have it that it'll boast the hemi, with plans for a 6.0 engine option... finally some punishment to Ford retrostang and the pontiac GTO... rear wheel driven of course, finally some true american sports cars to whoopdatass! I've been so tired of the few sporty cars being imports, its about time they got back in the game!

Adding to the pile here.

The New Charger conceptual drawnings look like a 300C. This may be true considering that PM announced the appearance of the SRT-8 in the form of a 300C with a larger Hemi, cranking out over 425hp. This might be the same car Charger/SRT-8 300C. Perhaps a Dodge version of the 300-C in a Coupe Perhaps??? The world may never know.

Graphite,
You need to know about what you speak!!!!
The "Charger" of the 80's as well as the "85"
GLH TURBO ,"86" GLH TURBO and GLHS and numerous
other 4 cylinder TURBO motors of that time frame
are (were) chrysler design and built 2.2 or 2.5
liter motors.
If you would goto "www.allpar.com" you would
find this out.

return of the Charger would be sweet. BTW, has anyone read Car And Driver or MotorTrend magazines and read about the ME Four-Twelve Chrysler just made? damn that thing is sweet. 0 to 60 in 2.6 to 2.9 seconds, V12, and weighs a little over 3000 lbs. they're thinking about making it available to buy but it's still not official. probably a hell of a price tag for alot of us though.

Hey dak2. Do you remember the early K-cars? Some of them had a Mitsu 2.6L I4 before the 2.5 came into being. These cars actually had little "HEMI" badges on the front fenders. And they really were hemi-style heads. Gotta love it, even if they were Misushi.

The Charger will return soon. The NASCAR teams will be using that body, as the Intrepid is due to bow out after '05. THe 6.1L 425 hp Hemi resides in the 300C SRT-8, not likely to appear in the Charger, same reasoning as no Hemi in the new Dakota.
Charger will be a 4dr, no doubt. Coupes just do not sell in the volume to make it a good investment for the company. Too bad.

I remember back in a day "4 doors" were un cool.
Boy did that flop these days.

As for the 80's FWD Chrysler I guess I generalized it all together but I KNOW some of them engines in the 80's were MitsuBitchi. I think some of them mid 80's Omni Horizons had MitsuBitchi engines in them. Maybe the 2.2 and 2.5 were all Chrysler. I just assumed they were MitsuBitchi designs too.
At the time I was still into good old Ford, Chevy, and Dodge V8's and the first time I took a mid 80's Chrysler (or Mitsu don;t remember which it was so long ago) engine apart that had two counter balancing shafts mounted under the crank shaft I thought "what the he11 is this sh*tty crap!?"
I know by the later 80's and eary 90's most Chrylsers were mitsuBitchi. The Van FWD was as well. Anyone who has had a 3.0 V6 MiniVan has replaced head gaskets. That was a given on them not too mention lots of blue smoke by 100K miles :-P

The early Omni's and Horizans had VW engines But anyway the new charger is based on the Magnum/300 platform so it will get all the engines they get except the the small 2.5? v6 and the 6.1 is in the works for the charger to.

Realisticly, with the price of gasoline, the fuel economy better improve or those cars will flop. We just may see a trend back to the cars of the 80's.

The system on the new Hemi which allows the engine to run on four cyl. at hi-way cruise speed, increasing mileage.
Graphite: The 2.2 and 2.5 were built at the Trenton engine plant. The 2.5 had balance shafts at one point, like the 2.6 Mitsu.
The 2.0 in Neon and Avengers was Mopar as well.
The 1.3L that came in the early Omni's was VW, and it was a leaky POS.

Dodge is needed a 4 door to fill a gap. There is a big market in 4 door midsize that dodge is missing out on. Look at the Durango, it was upgraded to a full size in a bad economy. People are still buying it. It's always about the bottom line. And they are trying to capitalize on the nostalgia market that ford (t-bird & pony), pontiac (gto), and dare I say chevy (SSR) are trying to capitalize on, some more successful than others.

People are complaining about the price of gasoline, but doing nothing about it. The Next time you drive down the road, count the SUVs , trucks, sports cars, and those atv sounding, fast and the furious rice cakes imports, then try spotting the car that gets over 20 mpg. Face it, we're a gas hog lovin' generation.

Personally I love my truck, there are very few cars on the road that I would drive, even those are not gas misers ith a few exceptions. All of those hybrids are way to ugly and not very pratical for my tastes.

Sure gas prices are high, because demand is up, production isn't increasing , oh, and it's election time again, I suspect we'll see prices dropping starting about the 3rd of november.

I was living in Indiana when gas prices went to around $1.50/gallon some years ago. The state suspended state sales tax which dropped the price about $0.13. Oh and state and federal sales tax on gas is about $0.42. The next time you fill up at $2.00/gallon think about the 21% "sales" tax you're paying compared to the ~7% you are paying for buying other non food items likes shoes, clothes, after market accessories for your dakota and cold tasty beer. Makes that beer look even better doesn't it?

15 gallons at $2.00/gallon is about $30.00 while the same with no tax is about $23.70. I wonder where that $6.30 you are paying every fillup is going, it sure isn't to fix the pot holes in the roads. I can't honestly remember the last time I drove 1 mile on a road without seeing some sort of road damage.
