Hi, All.
Here's my issue, whioch I hope somebody more knowledgable than myself can help me with. I recently got the old P0442, which I have gotten before. I made sure of my gas cap, and went on my way, not having had time since to reset the computer. Recently, I noticed my 2000 Dak seemed to be sort of struggling against itself, like I had a load when I didn't. So last night I checked the codes again. P0442 was still there, as NOW was also P0455 (large evap leak) and P0420 (reduced cat efficency). I have read all the posts I can find. Seems a lot of people think the 0455 can be caused by a really crappy gas cap (mine seems to be in good shape) or cracked/loose hoses off the charcoal canister. I checked these (I think-left side by the gas tank, one big, one small?) and they were good. No loose clamps, no splits. Given all these symptoms, what does anybody think it is? Has my cat fried? The onset was pretty sudden, no buildup. Would a bad O2 sensor cause this? Help!!!

Time for a new cat and replace that gas cap same time - they don't " look bad " they just don't seal properly anymore..
Generic from Autozone or Pepboys probably
better than OEM

Chuck, the dealership will simply replace your POS cat with another POS cat. Go aftermarket for a new cat. I'll bet if you go to the dealer for a new cat, and you've made changes to your intake/exhaust system, the dealer will blame the cat failure on the mods you've made and try to make you pay for the new one.
