Message: I have seen a post or two on this subject. If I recall correctly someone had a group buy on some plates that you install to keep the butt-heads from jambing through the doorhandle to get to the linkages inside.
Try searching through the group buy forum.

Message: Great job posting that information. Now those who didn't know about it, do, and will use that method when they come visit my truck on a dark night! That isn't the kind of info that you want to post in a forum that is visited by thousands of people some of which are troublemakers no doubt.

Message: I'm sorry for possibly overlooking that. I'm just looking for some ideas so it doesn't happen again. I doubt that this was highly classified information as it has happened on two seperate instances in two completely different regions.
Looks like it's common knowledge to me.
Sorry again though.

Message: Cal, don't let 'em get to you. "Security by obscurity" does not work. If you are aware of a method, you can be sure that their are hundreds, or thousands, that already know. By spreading the word, anyone who feels that they are at risk can then take some preventative measures (sleeping in the truck with the firearm(s) of your choice comes to mind :-) if they want.
DakotaOwner01 was just having a bit of fun showing that 99bludak was writing down the door handle thing for possible future use.

Message: I've had someone *attempt* to break into my '01 that way.
CLASSIFIED INFO (TOP SECRET): They attempted to jimmy the plastic around the outer door handle off to access the internals and there by open the door. This isn't rocket science people,,,look at the door and look at a flathead screw driver,,hmmm what to do. There is a flat piece of metal like Lurkin said they sell and you install back there, which pretty much iliminates that from happening.
MORE CLASSIFIED INFO: Get a handfull of broken spark plugs and throw at glass......
SUPER SECRET INFO: Get a coat hanger.......
har har...

Message: I remember people saying you could tie a spark plug to the end of a string. Then you spin it around and wack a car window with it and the glass breaks almost silently.
I've never tried it though. But it seemed to be "well known".

Message: I doubt many thieves are researching techniques on the internet. Any one with a piece of banding strap and a pair of tin snips could make their own slim jim - I take care of lockouts at work quite often. If the punks want in, they'll get in - there are many ways to do it.

Message: Redline Products makes a security addition called the Jimmi Jammer, it's a metal plate which fits between the door handle and the lock mechanism, it will help prevent people from breaking into your truck through the cheap plastic door handle.
As much as people might scoff at this type of break-in, I have pix and info from people I know on the various Dakota and Durango websites whose vehicles were broken into using this exact same manner.
Here's the manufacturer's website
www.jimmijammer.com
I co-ordinated a group buy for these items awhile back through www.aztrucks.com, they're a good distributor of this product.

Message: I'm sorry to be a pain... but I'd like to buy these for my '04 QC. I went to aztrucks.com and got to the jimmijammer page on their site. I selected my vehicle and this is the reply:
Search Results for a 2004 DODGE DAKOTA QUAD CAB:
Part# Description Price Shipping Select Qty
We're sorry -- no parts were found for this vehicle application.
(Similar parts may be available from a different mfg., or may not yet be updated for some newer models. Please verify that your make/model/year is correct, or you can always email us or call to find out if other items may be available.)
I also queried on a regular 2003 Dak and got the same result. Can you point me in the right direction?

Message: I and my buddy both own dakotas. Mine is a 99 and has never been broken into black sport totally inocuous nothing special can be seen looking through the windows. His is a 2003 with some fancy decals and a non-factory stereo and been broken into twice. Once they broke his window so he had the window place install some sort of better glass that is harder to break, so the second time they took a crow bar and wedged it into the door jam and pried it open (alot of damage to the truck). Anyhow what I am trying to say is doesn't mater what you do nothing will stop a determined theif. Also alarms and other things are great but in the end even with an alarm you are still paying for some damage to your truck. Most people that break into vehicles are not looking to steal them, just to take any valuble contents don't leave your valubales in the truck, or at least where people can see them.

Message: Sounds realativly simple to do, anyone need a 2000 clubcab Dak with a full tank of gas? I'll leave a spare key under the seat for you so you can escape a lot faster. I gotta make it look legit so pardon the gunshots, don't worry, I'll shoot into the ground or something.
