Subject: New ball joint and dealership info IP: Logged
Message: I just had my local dealership inspect the front suspension of my 2003 quad because of the rough and noisy ride. They replaced both upper balljoints. I say that this might be new info because I had read on the forum that the balljoints were being replaced as a control arm assembly. Well, my old ones were drilled out and a new balljoint bolted in. I'm not sure if these are still the same Mopar crap that was there in the first place of if they are an aftermarket set.
Just passing along what I thought might be new info and confirming that the 03's do indeed have balljoint trouble.

Message: Had the rivets cut on my 2000 Sport and new ones (OEM) bolted in. Will see how long these last.

Message: Was that covered under warranty or did the dealership cover it because of the recent bad pub about the ball joints?

Message: I don't know how the dealership covered the replacement I just know that I didn't pay anything, and I'm just fine with that!!

Message: I had my left upper ball joint replaced in August for my 2002 4x4 QC. Started making noise at 37k (figures...) so I brought it in. Lucky I had the extended warranty, but it still cost the $100 deductible and they put a new crappy ball joint on for me.

Message: I had my two uppers replaced under normal warranty (3/36) a couple months ago. It's an 02 QC AWD with 32K miles.
I had to have a "discussion" with the Service Manager before he'd agree to do it though. His inital stand was "We are not going to replace your ball joints". But after a few rounds of that against my saying "OK, but prove to me that they are good. What are the measurements of the freeplay that you took?", he finally agreed to replace 'em.
By the way, mine weren't very bad at all, just some light popping under certain turning situations. But, my warranty was about up, and I wanted them to feel the pain now instead of me later. The new ball joints did fix the light popping though, so they were going to become problematic.
