Subject: 96 magnum 3.9 misfiring code 43 HELP! IP: Logged
Message: Hi, I recently bought a 96 dakota with a magnum 3.9
engine. The engine misfires and runs very uneven.
Has trouble maintaining 50mph on the highway. I am
getting a code 43 (ignition coil circuit) from the check
engine light. The truck has a new distributor cap and
rotor, also a new set of plugs. I will check if those were
installed properly, I will also check coil resistance. Has
anyone dealt with a similar issue? If so, please advise
what the fix was. Thanks in advance!

Message: Possible bad coil !
Probable wiring problem .
Check wiring under the ASD relay in the underhood
fusebox , also the harness from there back to the firewall unwrap the tape till you find a splice of
3 or 4 wires - inspect closely - probable bad
redo with good quality joiner or solder and tape
Also check / clean connections to coil
and the computer ( disconnect battery negative first )..

Message: i fooled around with the dist and coil wiring,
disconnected the battery to clear the codes, and tried
again. the light stays off while revving or holding rpms,
but will probably come back on while under load or at
highway speeds.
