Subject: Dakota Seating Position IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
I've been lurking around here soaking up tons of great information preparing to buy a Dakota. I test drove one of the last 4x4 quad cabs in my area yesterday and seating position was not very comfortable. I am only 6ft tall but my head was at the top third of the windshield instead of the being roughly in the middle. This particular truck has the electric drivers seat and I adjusted it as low as it would go. Has anyone else had this problem? It's the only thing keeping me from buying this loaded Quad Cab.
Thanks,
Neil

Message: I'm 6'3" and haven't really noticed that problem...I drive a CC with power seats and I don't have it down all the way.
Have you tried test driving other Dakotas?

Message: My 6' 4'" father in law easily fits in my 04 Quad, He was
surprised at all the room. At least that's what he said.
The seats if it makes any difference are the manually
adjustable kind.

Message: Neil, I have the same problem in my 02 QC. I have to lean, or bend to see the stop light change if I am first in line, and I'm only 6' tall. Note that I do not have the electric drivers seat though.

Message: I wonder why some people notice the problem and others don't. This truck does have AWD. Does yours?

Message: I think it depends on what you usally drive; what your used too. Some cars have tall windshields and others don't. I'm 6'3" and have std. cab dakota with manual seats and i have the same prob. but you will get used to it. If you ever entertain a negative thought about your Dakota, just mash the go pedal, bring that smile back to your face, and leave them in your dust.

Message: Mine is an AWD, but I don't think that is it. I've driven 2wd Dakotas and sit at the same eye-level.
It's not necessarily how tall you are, it's seating position and the distance between eye-level and where your nards hit the seat...
Paul is right though. Hit the go-pedal and restricted upper vision doesn't seem to matter as much!
Also note that my last SUV (Isuzu Rodeo) had the same vision problem for me, so I've gotten used to it.

Message: 6'4" here. Stock seats...hated them. I felt like a clown at the circus. I ripped them out and put in racing buckets. check my profile for a pic.
Also if you wanted to keep the stock seat you could take out the slider mech. and build a new bracket. Not too hard and would give you up to 4 inches.
good luck.
(5 bills for the new seats - 100 I sold the stockers for... one of the best $400 ever spent.)

Message: I noticed it when I test drove my '03 QC 4x4 with power seats as well, but to be honest it didn't bother me that bad. Visibility is very good in the truck and the view that is blocked is not something you'd use when driving, just something you're used to seeing. Personally I love it, but that's all preference and if you don't think you'd adjust to it then you might wanna look elsewhere. BTW, I'm 6'1"...
