Message:
When I turn on cruise control it kicks down, revs as if I'm passing then sets itself.
This can't be right, and is not saving me fuel.
I haven't brought it in to the shop yet.
Can it be adjusted?
Any suggestions

AM, are you getting up to the speed you want to
cruise at before to press the "set" button?

Also, you never want to press the "resume" button
before your close to the cruise speed you "set".

Maybe you do have a problem with it but I kinda
doubt it.

I've tried every possible combination of setting it. Riding along at 100 kph on flat highway, I turn it on "set" abd it kicks down for a couple of seconds then sets at 100kph.
Is anyone else having this problem?

I read an article somewhere a while back, on the cruise on the durango/dakota/ram. It says that it "learns" and adapts over time, because its a universal length throttle cable. and if you engage it and let off the gas at the same time, it will freak out and overcompensate.

Here's an Example.

I'm driving down the highway at 65 and I want to set the cruise. so I hit "set" and at the same time I let off tha gas.... the computer sees this, and thinks "oh no I'm loosing speed" when in reality is isn't really losing much at all. so is overcompensates, and gets on it pretty hard. then it realizes the error of it's way and lets off again....
See where I'm going with this? I think you just need to retrain your cruise, by resetting your computer. then you need to keep your foot on the gas, and hold the speed until you feel the cruise take the pedal... I wish I could find that acticle......

Problem solved.
It turns out it is an after market cruise control. I bought the truck new in Sept and asked for cruise not knowing some local shop installed it seperately.
It turns out it was a programming adjustment to the converter. Now all is fine and I am very happy with my Dakota.
Cheers!

where is this little bit of wisdom written?
I have turned on "resume" at speeds less then half of what it was set at in many different trucks includng our two 8 year old Dodges will no ill effects.

I don't have the TSB itself, I do have the text-file I saved the message body too though.

DISCUSSION:

If the vehicle operator repeatedly presses and releases the SET button with their foot off of the accelerator (a "lift foot set" to begin speed control operation), the vehicle may accelerate and exceed the desired set speed by up to 5 MPH (8 km/in) and then decelerate to less than the desired set speed before finally achieving the desired set speed.

The speed control has an adaptive strategy (ability to learn) that compensates for vehicle-to-vehicle variations in speed control cable lengths. When the speed control is set with the vehicle operators foot off of the accelerator pedal, the speed control "thinks" there is excessive speed control cable slack and adapts (learns). If "lift foot sets" are continually used, the speed control overshoot/undershoot condition will develop.

To "unlearn" the overshoot/undershoot condition, the vehicle operator has to press and release the SET button while maintaining the desired set speed with the accelerator pedal (not decelerating or accelerating), and then turn the speed control switch to the OFF position (or press the CANCEL button, if equipped) after the speed control has been engaged for 10 seconds or longer. This procedure must be performed approximately 10-15 times to completely unlearn the overshoot/undershoot condition.

If the speed control operation procedure outlined in the Owners Manual is followed, the overshoot/undershoot condition will not occur. Please review the proper set procedure with the vehicle operator.

My cruise used to so this (kinda scary :) until i followed what this TSB outlined....
