Guys I got a little money to spend and need to know a few things. First off I have a 01 4X2 Dak RC 4.7 5 speed 3.92, and I want a muffler(fairly Cheap) that I can have put in the old ones place, but be louder and let that V8 rumble through that way I can be heard. The problem is I dont know the current size of pipe on the truck to know what size muffler to get or the straight and offset thingys? Also what about the computer and backpressure? Will there be any problems there? Anyone with this info, part #'s, etc., or that has done this please let me know as I also want as little interior resonance as possible. Thank you!

Cheap, loud, & no resonance? Can't help you. You are too picky. Back pressure and computer will not be an issue regardless of the muffler you choose.

Flo-Pro is a good budget muffler, looks on the outside like a Flowmaster but it is not chambered, it is a flow-through perforated design like the Dynomax Ultra-flo SS.

I think pipe size is 2.25" but perormance mufflers are much smaller than stock so they will have to add in some extensions so they can put a 3" in (that's what is on mine). I have the FP300 on the link below

http://www.flopro.com/FPovalsmall.htm

I went with this muffler because with a passenger minded SUV, I wanted minimal resonance. You won't have any problem with backpressure or the computer. YOu will probably pick up at least 1 mpg. I picked up at least .7 mpg consistently.

I have a '00 QC and the only reason I have any resonance is because the muffler is directly below the back seat. If your muffler is behind the cab you shouldn't have a problem. I bought the whole system from Summit and it came with an extra piece of pipe that fit the stock pipe from the cat and then got wider to accept the 3" muffler opening.
By the way I have a 3" Dynomax catback on a V6. Lost low end torqe but with the addition of JBA headers and an Airaid intake I got it back plus some. No computer problems either. It usually takes 200 to 300 miles for your computer to adjust itself anyway.

Borla and Gibson are quietest in the cab. No muffler will provide any performance gain on the 4.7 without substantial engine modifications. The Gibson in Aluminized Steel and can be had for a little under $100. The Borla is stainless and costs $150 or so plus you have to add in the cost of the pipe extension, brackets/hangers, and installation if you can't do it yourself. I have a used Borla that has about 500 miles on it. It has all hangers and should bolt directly on your 4.7. Email me privately if you are interested.

You can get a Flowmaster 50 series #52558 which is 2.5" offset inlet offset outlet for $80 in Jegs or Summit. It will be a good fit but you will still need a little bit of pipe. Its almost the same muffler they put in the Flowmaster cat back systems for your truck. It sounds great and people will definately hear you. I have the cat back and I have very little resonance. You can get the entire catback with 3" mandrel bent pipe for around $200.

Wouldnt the 3 inch pipe be a little big, and loose to much backpressure for the 5 speed? I guess I could stand to loose a little bottom end though cause of the gearing, its got a helluva lot on the bottome end. Well thanks guys I will prolly just go with having the 50 series Flowmaster put in that should be enough performance sound for me! Thank you for your responses and opinions.

If your gonna go with Flowmaster, call them and describe your setup and what you want in terms of sound, in order to get the right muffler for you in the first place and not having to swap it out later for various reasons.

I have their SUV 50 Series Performance muffler, single 2 1/2 inch center inlet, dual 2 1/4 inch outlets...larger case -vs- their standard 50 and delta flow series is suppose to equal better flow and sound. They also say the casing is thicker for less noise in the cab at highway speed.

Nice growl and rummble at startup and idle, talks to ya when at WOT, quiet enough in the cab at highway speeds to carry on a conversation or hear the radio.

My muffler cost me $79 from Summit

I have a 30 series flowmaster 2 1/2 in and out, I have a problem tryin to keep the tailpipe ON the muffler, when it is on it is a nice quiet not to menaceing rumble, when it's off on the other hand it is a even nicer, louder rumble that sets off car alarms, I like it, but with that I have noticed that my fuel millage goes down as well as low/mid- range torque.

Go with the flowmaster it is the best muffler. And go with the 3 inch pipe it will look and sound cool and let your engine breath easier. Dont worry about backpressure because the crap y-pipe that dodge put on will give you enough backpressure. Also the cats and manifolds so backpressure isn't an issue. Goodluck. And good choice.

I agree with Mar. I have a 2001 4.7 5 speed with the Flowmaster cat back. I paid $197 for it and it sounds great. I new it would because I have had every muffler known to man and nothing sounds like a flow. As a matter of fact, all 3 of my vehicles have flowmaster mufflers. I'm not worried about my backpressure either. With 3 cats and a crappy y-pipe there is no need to worry. Plus, the 3" pipe looks mean under there.

Everyone is forgetting the "cheap" part. If DMSDAK took that out of the equation, I would have said Flowmaster right off of the bat. I got a 2 chamber and love it. The 50 won't have the cab resonance that mine does....but I turn off the radio and open the rear slider just to hear the roar. Hehehe

I have a 1996 Honda Accord LX. I went to a national muffler chain repair shop and I called the dealer to get an estimate. I was told that I need a muffler and the connector pipe. The cost for the repair was a range of $380.00- 500.00. Does this sound right? If I use generic parts, instead of Honda parts, will it have an effect on my vehicle's performance?

Why did you come here and not a honda forum?

But to answer your question...you can get anything done cheaper than at the dealership. Order a magnaflow muffler(this is the quietest and will kep your car from sounding like a lawnmower) from some site. Just shop around on the net. Then go to a muffler shop near by. Ask some guy friends for some recomendations. The muffler shop will install everything for you. Including the connector pipe.

Having all of this done could cost well under $200 including the cost of the muffler. And YES you may see some performance benefits from the addition of the muffler.

Do not go to a national muffler repair chain. They will over charge you as well.

Go to truckperformance.com and call there tech number. They are pretty helpful and will help you pick the quietest or loudest depending on what you want.

I just looked around at the website and realized I don't know crap about import exhaust.

Check out the Magnaflow #14256 stainless or #12256 aluminized. The stainless will cost about $80 and the aluminized one around $60. Install shouldn’t cost more than $20. Go here for all the info http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/universal.htm

I put one on my ’00 QC 4x4 and all I can tell you is that I’m not disappointed one bit.
