JFH, your uncle should have went out and asked a
few owners of Daks what they would like to see?

Did ANYONE on the design team do ANYTHING about
all the faults (ball joints, tranny, wet floors,
faulty brakes, etc etc) they have? How about the
3.7 V6 that developes a miss after a few grand?

As far as Hemi goes, why a few years down the road
to see a Hemi in a Dak when DC is putting them in
the Jeeps now?

Like I said before, I'll keep my 02, 4X4, 4.7.
I'm not about to start all over again fixing DC's
faults...................... again!

I don't get a whole lot of info from him, so I am not sure about the ball joints and ect. I have suggested in the past to poll all curent Dakota owners and even other truck owners to see what they would like to see. Not sure why they are waiting on the HEMI, maybe they want to see how sales go first. I'll see what I can find out.

I don't really care for the styling, although it may grow on me like the Ram did. I didn't hear about any improvements to the ball joint design. What really upsets me is that they come out with this Hemi. They start out using it in the Rams, then the Durangos, and that station wagon (Magnum) the Chrysler 300, and will be in the redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokees. In fact, I've seen on Car and Driver television that they are going to release SRT versions of the Grand Cherokee, Magnum, and 300 with a 6.1 Hemi. Apparently the yuppies and soccer moms need HP and torque but not Dakota owners. I feel like Dodge found a target with the Dakota and then is just casting us aside. I would prefer something with better ground clearance too. Of the reviews I've read of the new Durango, it is easier to scrape the undercarriage than it is on its competition. This has also been said of the Ram. Since the Dakota is based on the same hydroformed frame as the Durango, chances are pretty good that it will suffer the same ground clearance issues. Also, why doesn't Dodge install some decent tie-down anchors on their trucks? I'm looking at the '04 body style of Dakota, but I haven't made my final decision yet. It might not even be a Dodge.

They added some sort of suspension gizmo to the rear end to cut down on axle bounce on rough pavement for the 2005's.

I also understand they re-desingned the AC evaporator coil location and drain so that it is no longer as prone to clog. The possibility still exists.

They're using another type of ball joints for 05 as well but who knows if they will fail too???

Oh, Somewhere in this flavored land the sun is shining bright,

The band is playing somewhere and somewhere hearts are light,

Somewhere men are laughing and somewhere children shout,

But there's no joy in truckville, mighty dodge has struck out.

I don't care for the looks much either, however they will most likely grow on me.
Also I heard that there will not be a regular cab offered. I enjoy less weight and less passenger room. Means less people I have to give rides. Just me and my girl. Not much room inbetween with that big stick in the way. (Talking about the truck)
Looks too big.
And I thought it was supposed to be a mid-sized truck not full. But then again, every yuppie out there likes the bigger is better mentality. Not always. What is the point of the almighty 4 wheel drive called the Hummer, when you can't fit it on the trails?

I sure that most people will get use to the new looks. Come on now we all new that the Dakota and durango are close kin. We had to know that that new durango style would come to the Dakotas. I test drove one today. A 4.7L 4x4 club cab Larime,sport...... Nice top of the line & $$31k
They offer the 3.7L-210hp and two versions of the 4.7L
the standard 4.7 w/ 230hp
and the
H.O. 4.7 w/ 260hp and 310tq
I'd like to see the new diesel from the liberty and a HEMI, or a v6 Hemi on the option list.
The 2x4 has the same ride height as the 4x4
THERE'S MY TWO CENTS ON IT.

Yea this truck will probably grow on me too...............like a fungus!

The truck is too boxy, the front bumper sticks out too far, I don't like the way the grill is slanted backwards, I don't like the GM like side panels or wheels, I could just go on all day.

Not to mention the lack of options. No RC,no sport, no R/T. What a complete PI$$ER.

The 2005 is one buttttt ugly truck. I took one for a ride and my 02 dakota rides alot better. It just seems so cheaply made compared to years past. I would not own one if it was given to me.
