OK, I talked to my local Advance Auto Parts and they have the ABS speed sensor for a 99 Dakota. Will this work on a 2000 Dakota? Also what is the best way to get to the rear dif? It seems impossible coming up from the front of the dif because the hot a$$ muffler is to the right and the gas tank is to the left. Luckily my spare is already removed, so I could come up from that direction but I cannot see the sensor from there. Any suggestions? I heard that this was real easy, maybe I am missing something.

hey man, just get the sensor from the dealer, i think i paid 25-35 bucks, and as for instalation, i tried it from underneath, and to be honest i ended up taking 6 bolts lose and pulling the bed off and working at it from the top took me roughly 35min start to finish including r/i the bed.

Dont get the one from the auto parts store. The one they have is a speed sensor but it's the wrong one. They will try and see you one that screws into the tranny on the drivers side. You dont need that one.

This is a dealer must part that isnt all that expensive. They did that to me at an Advanced Auto here in Ga.

took me like 5-10 mins from under the truck - drove it up on my ramps so i could fit, used a small mirror to get a better look, unscrewed the screw, pulled the stuff off, carefully pryed the sensor out, wiped the crud off the hole, re-wet it with diff oil (stuck my finger in), wet the new sensor's rubber o-ring, popped it in, reattached the stuff, screw back in, done.
10 mins tops.
i layed under the truck from the back, so my arms were in front of the rear axle.

try doing it when the muffler isn't hot.
