Subject: Leaking output shaft seals IP: Logged
Message: I developed a leaky passenger side output shaft seal (differential axle) on my 1996 Dakota 4WD. I have replaced the seal twice, and the leak continues. The axle showed no signs of wear in the bearing race area, and very little wear in the seal area, just a slight scoring. I polished the axle up a bit, and replaced it along with a new seal. Still leaks. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Normally seals are a little more forgiving.

Message: could the shaft be damaged, or, could the case that the seal sits in be cracked? Just grasping at straws here...
