Subject: Generic mufflers are junk! IP: Logged
Message: I just had a rusty generic stock muffler replaced on my 97 5.2 .It had a 2-1/4 inlet and outlet. As the muffler was being cut off it broke in half and I was amazed to see a 3/4 to 1 inch diameter pipe hooked directly on to the 2-1/4" tail pipe. This pipe was about 8 inches long and all the exhaust had to flow through it to get to the tail pipe. My riding lawn mower has a similar sized pipe. Needless to say, the truck now runs much better. I can't believe anyone could sell such a piece of junk!

Message: The 5.2 should not be using a 2-1/4" single in/out muffler. Thats rediculously tiny for that size engine. Upgrade to a 3" muffler, or get duals man. I wish my 3.9 could get duals, but it'll lose too much low end torque.
