Subject: Front Hub Assembly Replacement IP: Logged
Message: I am about to part-take in changing my driver side hub assembly on my '99 4x4 Dak. I picked up an assy for my truck from Advance for ~$150 (w/ Rear only ABS ). I was searching through all the previous postings, but I never found a clear list of the torques required as I re-assemble all of the components. Also does the hub nut require a 35mm socket to remove? Any other tips or words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Message: In case you could tell from reading, I am far from being cheap. Everything I have personally done to my truck is of the highest quality and cost has not been a restriction. Not to mention those Haynes manuals tend to be generic and lacking in sufficient details.

Message: Just did mine saturday morning. Total time for the driver and passenger sides was about 1 1/2 hours. For the 35mm nut I used a 1 1/4 socket, worked fine. The 3 hub bolts used a 14mm socket. As for the torque specs can't help you there, just gave em' hell. One hint is to have a large puller on hand. Mine were rusted in pretty good. Put the puller on the hub with the center screw in the hole in that is on the end of the cv joint. Ended up pushing the cv joint in until it bound up. After you have some pressure on it, tap the hub outward with a ballpeen hammer. Just make sure before you re-assemble that you clean out the rust to ensure a good seat.
I don't know what your problem is but if your hearing a sound similar to having very large tires, changing the hub may not solve it. I still have this sound. To tell you the truth my bearings felt just as tight as the new ones did. I have 105,000 miles so I didn't mind changing them just in case. Hope the info helps.
