Subject: Intermediate Shaft?
IP: Logged

Message:
I did several searches trying to find someone who has had a similar problem to the one I'm having, with no luck. The closest I got were the threads on the steering intermediate shaft. When going over rough pavement or pulling into my driveway, I can feel/hear the front wheels/suspension knock slightly, but the sensation isn't transferred through to the steering wheel. And maybe I'm so convinced that there is a problem that I'm imagining this, but my truck seems to "Road Walk" (needs constant steering correction) a little. Sound familiar to anyone that has dealt with intermediate shaft problems? '02 QC 4X4 4.7 LSD AWD
Thanks

What you're experiencing might be the "Dodge Thud" and there are plenty of posts on that one. It's basically a clunking sound or sensation which doesn't seem to have one single cause and in most cases has usually proven to be harmless. Note: when you take it in to the dealer, they will not be able to duplicate it. Make sure you go for a test drive with someone and make sure he hears it.

Rod, sounds quite a bit like what my 02 QC AWD was doing a few months ago. It started to repeatably thunk over an expansion joint in a parking lot at my workplace (right turn) and at the turn-in to my sub-division (left turn).

I took it to the dealer as a ball joint problem, and after quite a long discussion over how ball joints are supposed to be checked vs. what they did, they finally replaced the 2 uppers.

After that, no more thunking.

2000, CC, 4X4, LSD. I know what you mean by "Road Walk". Mine drifts to the right, more than you would expect from a slanted road surface. I have had the wheels aligned three times with no cure. I have read several posts on this problem but have never heard a satisfactory explanation. I hope someone can come up with one.

BOTH symtoms are related to bad ball joints.

Good Day! i too am having the same problems as most on my 2000 quad, i get a pop when i gas it from a dead stop or when i brake hard, turn right or left at slow speeds, but the funny thing is that i had the whole rack replaced at 50,000km, i am now at 106,000km and cannot believe that they could be shot already, i only do highway driving and no off road whatso ever, i also tried the speedtweaks poping sound trick, but no go, o well i guess it is time to replace the ball joints again and this time with moog parts, boy i hope the new gen 4's don't have any ball joint problems.
