Message: O.K. I need to replace these front brakes and have decided to go with the Powerslot/Hawk combo that seems favored on this site. My question is how hard will this be to do myself, and what tools do I need to do so. I am capable to do some light mechanical work, I have just never done brakes before. Any tips or words of advice from the experts in here? I have a 2000 Dakota 4x4 CC, thanks in advance

Message: make sure you have something to compress the calipers. Or you will have a hell of a time geting the calipers over teh new rotors.

Message: Large rubber mallet to beat the old rotors off with.
7mm allen wrench to remove the caliper mounting bolts.
Large C-clamp or piston compressing tool to reseat the piston in the caliper.
Wire brush to clean off all the rust on the mounting flange.
Penetrating oil and brake cleaner.
When you push the piston back into the caliper, you should open the bleed valve so you don't push the brake fluid back up into the master cylinder.
You might want to bleed all the brakes while you at it just to get new fluid into the system.
Make sure you follow the directions on how to bed in the new pads and rotors and you won't have any problems.
I put the same ones on mine last winter and they work great.
