Subject: Wet carpet/plenum gasket/b.joints? IP: Logged
Message: Have 25,000 on the 03, 5.9, QC 4X4. Zero (should keep my mouth shut!) problems yet. When will they start? With my 3.92 rear, this thing just torques up everything in sight, love it! Spring, summer and fall daily mpg around 15, trips over 16. Winter every day 13/14, however, I knew what I was getting into when I ordered it!

Message: Not sure. I have a 99 5.2 CC 4X4 and don't have any problems yet. The only thing I have had to do is replace the water pump at 45k. But let's face it, those parts aren't made to last the life of the truck. So, not much help, but maybe some optimism that not everyone has those problems.

Message: samtheman, you should have never asked. Now your
luck may go sour.
Your problems could start at any time. My 02 4.7
4X4 started at 13k with warped rotors. The left
upper ball joint also has play that I'm keeping a
close @^@ on. I plan to change them myself when
they get bad enough. Can't see the dealer doing it
and using DC junk parts when there are better
parts on the market. The tranny is a little funny
at times also. I don't like the *hunting* for a
good gear it does a lot. I've had it with DC's
automatics. Stick shift will be my next IF I buy a
DC product next time around.
Anyway, I hope yours gives you NO problems at all!
Just keep up with the routine maintenance.

Message: Could still get them in 03. I actually ordered it a week late May of 03, however, their computers were down and they extended it a week. Probably got one of the last 5.9s ever.

Message: No trans issues. I drive gms at work all the time. The 46RE is not on a par with the gm trannys but it isn't bad. My tranny, on the rare occasion it needs to down shift on a hill, has enough sense to stay in the lower gear. That is the big thing with trannys and used to be a problem with many when they first became four speeds. My trans shifts hard 2nd to 3rd when going down hill and you can feel a slight hesitation going into OD most times. It also has the bizare feature of going in an out of lock up TC when you kick it into a lower gear (owners manual warns you about this!). GMs shift the same all the time, doesn't matter what the conditions are and are always very smooth. Anyway, my tranny is about an 8.5 to a 9 on a 10 scale, but no issues.
