Subject: Anyone had these problems? IP: Logged
Message: 2002 dakota 4.7L QC
1. Bought it used. Does this maybe once every week. My wife drives the truck more than I do. When she comes to a stop, the idle slowly drops to around 3-400 rpm, chugs and then catches itself and idles fine (almost stalls). Dealer had cleaned the throttle body, i've cleaned the IAC. No solution. Ideas?
2. When I set the cruise to around 70mph, it seems like the truck surges every once in a while. The RPM's don't seem to move up, it's not down shifting. Can't figure out what this is. I found this TSB number, but I can't find the solution, TSB 0803500. can anyone help?

Message: Not familiar with the 4.7, but here are some ideas. Both symptoms seem to point to one problem. Sounds like a fuel management issue either due to a faulty emission component or some type of system contamination.
It is good that you cleaned your TB, but you might want to finish the job with a fuel injection & fuel filter service. I am not sure if the TPS sensor voltage is adjustable on the 4.7 or not, but you could check it see if it is within spec. Have someone check your fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel rail. Check it in neutral and in drive.
Any check engine light? When was your last tuneup?

Message: No check engine light. Never had a tune up, it has 40,000 miles.

Message: not sure how, but i think it may have something to do with the downshifting not being able to catch up with the engine (kinda like leaving a standard in 3rd gear and slowing to almost a stop...its gonna stall on ya at some point). i would at least have it changed, it really couldn't hurt. At 40,000 miles, its probably a good idea anyway

Message: Stalling or almost stalling is (or at least on mine was) from the torque converter not unlocking. Dealer said it was low on fluid and topped it off. Problem went away. Unknown if they did anything else. Had just recently changed the fluid and the level showed ok but, maybe there was an air bubble or something that worked out and made it low.
