Subject: AC freon Recharge... leak? IP: Logged
Message: Well my AC stopped working the other day and I took it to the dealer... THey just got done telling me they couldnt find any leak, but the freon was low... so they recharged/filled it up and put a dye in it so they can find a leak w/a blacklight if it goes out again... $180 bucks later. Is it just me or is this stupid? From what I've always understood freon doesnt wear out after 4 years if there's no leak... SO THERE MUST BE somethign WRONG. Am I wrong and a simple recharge/fill may do the trick? ...Or are they pulling my leg, and wallet?
I have a 2000 Dakota

Message: It's possible that you could be loosing some threw your compressor seal and the only fixs would be to replace seal or peplace the whole unit. Try the black light around the seal and see if anything shows up. If it's a small amount it my be a while before anything shows up if at all.
