 Subject: 2002 check engine light

I got a check engine icon and pulled the codes and it said PO442(EEC small leak) I checked the gas cap and it still came back on. Any thing else i should check?

A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
* A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
* A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
* A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
* Other small leak in EVAP system
* Faulty vent o-ring seal
Possible Solutions
With a P0442, the most common repair is to:
* Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
* Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
* Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses

Thanks dan, I followed the return line and found a crack in the hose on one of the connections!
must have used crappy hose for it to dry rot in 2 years.

can you clarify a little on this, like which lines to check? i've gotten a p0456 a few times lately (slight evap leak) thought maybe it was the gas cap, but it was snug and that hasnt changed anything. where do i need to look for worn hoses?

I have a 2002 also and last night my engine light came on same code 0442 and i only have 22k miles

I followed the return line from the fuel tank forward(metal or poly line) up into the engine compartment along the drivers side of the motor.
It turns into a rubber hose and has a test port that says finger tight only. mine was cracked just past the test port.
this line runs from the fuel tank into the engine comp and under the engine fuse panel and into a charcoal canister by the battery. good luck
