Subject: couple questions...help? IP: Logged
Message: 1) When i drive around my battery voltage is fine, when i start it up it is also fine (usually). Here is the problem: When i park in my driveway which is very steep i pull in forward so the front of the truck is up higher than the back because of the incline in the driveway. it would not start in this position so i got some jumper cables, started it up fine and drove around fine the rest of the day. The next morning i woke up at my girlfriends house. The truck started fine, i drove to my house parked, went in to shower and when i came back out it wouldnt start. I thought about how i was only not able to start at my house so i put it in neutral, rolled into the street (flat area) and teh truck started fine.....any ideas????
2) There is a noise in my front right wheel well. The sound matches with my speed (driving slow the intervals are far a part, then when going fast the intervals are close together) so im assuming its something with the wheel? Ball joints? CV joints? But im not sure what exactly. The sound is hard to explain but the best way i could explain it as is a squishing noise. Like every time the wheel makes a rotation its squishing something under the tire (liek a flat sort of).
Sorry for the long post, anything would be appreciated.....

Message: Question 1: Next time you park on the hill, try shifting into neutral but staying on the hill, and crank it over. My next suggestion would be try a different battery, perhaps the bottom of your current one is sulfated, and it's building up to the point that it's shorting the bottom of the cells together on the angle. Kind like dust collecting in the corner.
Question 2: I can't be sure, obviously, but could it be the squealers on the brake pads? They can make some really odd noises. Does the noise go away if you lightly apply the brakes? Does turning the steering wheel affect the noise? Could be rust built up on the rotors vents, contacting the caliper. Or a rust ridge on the rotor is contacting the dust shield. In any case, a quick test drive by a good mechanic should get you in the ballpark.

Message: Questions to answer questions:
Question 1) Maybe there is a "low oil" sensor that prevents starting when on a really steep hill? Did you use the jumpers where the truck was parked or move it a bit?
Question 2) It sounds like brake pads rubbing on warped rotors. When you brake, does the steering wheel ever wobble or vibrate?
Solution to question 1: Go live with the girlfriend.
