Subject: A Wiring Question IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know of a wire under the hood that is switched with the ignition. In other words 12v is applied when the ignition is on and 0v when it is off. I considered the "purple wire" to the Wiper motor but it still has a low voltage on it when the ignition is off. I would like to connect the control voltage for a relay (battery isolator) to the wire I am looking for so I can charge the camper battery. I considered the anti-lock brake supply but would rather not mess with the safety devices. I also don't want to poke holes in all the wires in the bundles!!

Message: Auto Shut-Down relay. Positive (+) when in the RUN & CRANK positions, open when shut off. It's the "trigger" wire to activate the ASD relay, which in turn powers the igntion coil and fuel pump. If you tell me the year and model of your Dak, I can look up the location in the shop computer & tell you what colour wire to tap. Or you can pop your head under the hood with a test light and find it yourself :)

Message: It's an '03 Quad with the 4.7. I'm not sure if they're wire bundles or haystacks but there's sure a bunch to try that would take me all day!

Message: Sure can. Be sure to have an in-line fuse between the battery and the switch.

Message: What Terry and ScojoDak didn't pay close attention to was that it was a "Quad Cab." Many Quad Cabs come equipped with "little helpers" who help things get turned on and off, like switches that can get left on that drain the battery - like has happened to "Mommy's Van." The relay is "piece of mind" for that kind of thing.
