I wanna get a new shifter knob for my 2001 5 speed but i cant figure out how to get the old one off? has any one did this before?

i had to use a pipe wrench to get my shift knob off in my 98 slt cc. i dont know if they changed in any way since then. but it should screw off, just very stubborn.

If you '01 shift knob is like my '99 5 speed knob then to remove it use a small screwdriver and pry up the black cap with the shift pattern. There is a small lip which will be a little stubborn, but it should come up without too much problem.
Once the cap is off, take a 13mm socket and unscrew the hold down bolt. Once the bolt is off you can remove the knob.
If you want to replace the knob, look for a knob which fits 10 x 1.5 threads. This is what '97 - '00 have and I would think '01's have the same thread.

Man, I wish I had Chuck's info before I did my know. I ended up cutting through the stock knob, scratched the paint on the stick. I was dumb. Then my gf took hers to the dealer, and they did hers for free.

chuck is right, thanks for the info chuck. I just replaced my stock knob with a hurst t-handel that i picked up at discount auto parts for 24 bones. On my '01 4.7 5spd i just popped the center cap off and used a 14mm socket to remove the nut. After that my knob pulled right off and on goes the hurst t-handel! LOOKS NICE!

Do you know what the thread size is on your Hurst shifter? I have heard that the thread pattern changed, but I'm not sure if it was for '01 or '02.

The thread size for my '01 shifter is 10mm x 1.50
For anyone who wants to get the Hurst T-Handle get the one that fits metric thread sizes. Its part number 153 0018.

I just took the knob off my 02 Dakota and
it wasn't a 14mm it was a 15mm pretty sure
the thread pattern is still a 10mm by 1.5
tho
