Subject: compressor drip on headers IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Dakota CC... I have noticed that everytime I get out of the truck after running the AC that it is dripping water (normal I know) but it is dripping directly on the hot exhaust (which is annoying in the way it sounds like it is about to explode) but I am more concerned that this is going to cause the headers to rust through eventually causing premature replacement. Has anyone else noticed this? or is my truck just special.

Message: That will not cause any premature rust. Those headers are constantly exposed to moisture, and the water that is dripping on them after you turn the truck off is evaporating almost immediately upon contact, so it is not staying around long enough to cause rust. Can't say that I have noticed my truck doing that, but then again, I have never paid that much attention.

Message: My 00 cc 4x4 4.7L, does the SAME THING! I have the stock manifolds/piping though. sometime I'm going to find out where its dripping to, and make up a little deflector out of sheet-metal...
I work second shift, and its QUIET out when I get home (12:15 AM) so I notice it a LOT :-)

Message: How and what the heck does it have to do with freeze plugs??????????????????????????????? Freeze plugs are on the block in the coolant system.
You can add a short length of hose to redirect it. Big deal a couple little sizzles. That sounds like it's going to explode?

Message: Kevin...You are just an idiot. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Where you could get the idea that water dropping on the headers would corrode the freeze plugs is beyond me. Please, do us all a favor and just stop posting!

Message: I also get home from work in the middle of the night and an annoyed by the constant sizzle from the water drip... it just seams to be an excessive amount of dripping, I've never had any previous vehicles drip near this much... not to mention directly onto the hot exhaust? I guess it's just another impressive design flaw by dodge.

Message: My '96 3.6 does the same thing. I run the air a lot here in Tucson. The problem I have is it drips onto the upstream 02 sensor and appears to have rusted it in. I'll try the hose diversion trick. Thanks, Neil.
And bludak.... lighten up for christ sake!!!!

Message: I get the same thing on my '03. It's the drain from the AC evaporator. It comes out right on top of the Y-Pipe. Annoying, but it won't really hurt anything.

Message: I have the same problem with my '01 Club Cab. However, I had the problem with water on the inside passenger side that took the dealer 3 time to fix. I'm not gonna touch it, I can live with the sizzle & pop, but not the water inside. From what I understand is that the a/c drain is just a cheesy rubber elbow comming from the inside unit through the firewall. If its really bugging you do some more searching, at one time I found a post(somewhere) from someone who made a better/longer drain out of a few parts that let the water drain away from the exhaust.
