Subject: Parking brake not working! IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys well I have a 01 with 73K on it and today when I pulled into a parking spot and put it in park it started rolling backwards! It has never done this before and when I parked earlier today I had no problem. Now I have to put the hill brake on. What could this be? Do you think it should be covered by my warrante (sp?). The brakes are working fine besides that. Do you think this is something that needs to be fixed asap because hurricane Ivan is comming my way within the next 24hrs. Thanks

Message: Confused ? Sounds like you're calling your parking brake a hill brake, so your parking brake actually works. How's that for an easy fix ? When you put an auto tranny in park, it locks the transmission; but that's not called a parking brake. You may not have fully engaged park; your linkage may be out of adjustment; or there could be some internal damage. Did you try shifting back into gear and then back to park again ?

Message: Yeah I mean when I shift it from Drive to Park it rolls. And I have driven it a couple of times more and it still does it. So it could just need a small adjustment? Does this mean my brakes are going bad?

Message: Definitely not - this has nothing to do with your brakes. Either the transmission linkage is out of adjustment, or there is internal damage. Have you thrown it into park while rolling, mistakenly thinking this was some kind of brake ?
