Subject: RACENET- RIPOFF IP: Logged
Message: All-
Although I am not a regularly contributing member here I do post every so often and since people here have been VERY cool in answering all of my questions I wanted to give a warning about RACENET in Houston, TX.
I placed an order for an IN STOCK set of Taylor 8mm wires for my 03 4X4 V6 Dak on 7/27/04.
After the item I purchased did not arrive I called on 8/5/04 and was told that the item will BE IN (i.e they were NOT in Stock) and shipped the week of 8/9/04. When they did not arrive that week either I sent this email on 8/13/04:
I was informed that these wires were to be in this week (Week of August 9th)
Please advise shipment status.
Regards,
AR
When I received no reply from them via Email I sent the identical Email on 8/16/04
When I again did not receive a confirmation regarding the shipping status of the order I sent an email canceling the order on 8/18/04
I called the Company on 8/20/04 and inquired about the cancellation, as they did not confirm with me that this has been done. They informed me that the order had been cancelled but that the card has not been credited at that point. I emailed the company again on 8/21/04 asking about the credit.
I waited patiently for the credit to arrive on my statement. And when it had not I called the company again on 8/27/04 and inquired about the credit of my card. I was informed that the card was credited on 8/26/04 and that “you’ll have to wait a few days for it to show up.”
I then called the company again on 9/2/04 and asked about the credit, as it has not appeared. The individual on the phone informed me that the credit was “cleared 8/26/04” I told him that I have not been reimbursed for this amount and that I wanted him to find out and call me back on my cell phone. He did not return the call.
I have asked my bank (and sent a formal complaint) against Racenet Performance and to have my credit card/ATM card credited for the $50.45 that they are obviously not going to return to me and fraudulently took. I feel I have been more than patient and understanding and now feel that this outfit is unprofessional in its dealings with their customers.

Message: Man, that sucks! I totally agree what you did was absolutely perfect for the situation, and I have done the same before for software I bought online. Paid via Credit Card, and took a screen-shot of the confirmation number to access the program. The number didn't work, and the software co. didn't return my emails for 4 days. On the Thursday of that week, I called my CC company and explained my situation. They said that's theft; money taken but no product. They reversed the charges & credited my account.
For once, I was GLAD I bought something on credit.

Message: It is sad that it had to come to this but I figure they are a fairly large outfit and a few people here may possibly go to them for Dakota parts that they (supposedly) sell.
Usually problems can be resolved in a reasonable manner (usually slow but taken care of) these boys are obviously looking to take the $ and run. I may also file with the State Attorney General of Texas, as this is a blatant sham outfit!

Message: Bummer man. Hope it works out for you.
FWIW, Summitracing.com had pretty good prices on Taylor 8mm wires. I considered getting them myself, but went with the MSDs for only $15 more. Summit was $44 or so.

Message: I have actually been to the Racenet place of business. It is a small "family" business and my guess is that they "drop ship" a lot of their sales from the manufacturer rather than actually have a large stock of parts on hand. They seemed like a nice group of people when I visited their 12x12 "showroom".
I like to buy stuff on line through the internet and generally have good sucess with it. However, not too long ago I paid $160 to a "crook" on Ebay for some Windows XP software. (His name is Jason Jones and he lives in Bartlesville Oklahoma). He processed the payment and never shipped the software. I filed claims with Ebay and Paypal and both said I was right. However, I had to file a third claim with VISA. Visa reversed the charge and I did not have to pay the $160. Yeah VISA!!
One lousy experience like that makes up for a lot of the good ones!!!

You're not the only one. Just posted this earlier today:

Would like to know how this turns out for you, as I am seriously considering pursuing a legal complaint against Racenet at this point.
Thanks,

Man this sucks. I have sent information to my bank regarding it and still have not had a credit issued. I think we should both report to the BBB and the State Attorney General. 2 complaints won't look good. I'm sure the "press" they are getting over these measly orders (well mine is measly)
I am still out the $50 bucks as of this post. Hoping my bank does the right thing and protects the people who keep it afloat by eating the $50 and crediting it back.
Keep us posted and I will do the same. Next time I'm down in Houston I may stop in and pay them a visit!

Guess not having anything in stock leaves the guys at Racenet with nothing to do, 'cuz they close early on Fridays, so I won't find out anything until Monday. I will definitely keep you posted though, and I'm right on board with taking this to some local Houston authority, be it the State Attorney as you suggested, or even the Houston Sheriff Dept Fraud Division. I don't appreciate getting stiffed for 300 bucks, and I'd really just like to get those PowerSlot Rotors...
Keep in touch.

I talked to Racenet this morning, and they said my parts shipped out on Friday. Finally!
Guess when these guys say '1 week', they really mean '1 month'. Something to remember when ordering from them. I saved a few bucks on the parts, a very few, but would have preferred getting them in a more timely manner. Will prob'ly look elsewhere next time.
Too bad for Racenet...I have a lot more money to spend on my truck.
Anybody know of a good online parts place for performance parts?
Keep truckin',

Message: IF you have the stuff fully documented, I'd suggest filing a complaint with the BBB (better business bureau) - any reputable business will be a member. Also, you can check complaints with the BBB - how many, what for ,etc. You can file online and they will forward your case to the BBB office in the state the business operates out of. I've done this with a few places before. They've always been helpful in "resolving" these issues. Sounds like you have it resolved , but at least you can put the complaint against the company and it'll be there for future customers.

Let us know if the parts actually arrive. They fed me S**t about the stuff going to ship and once I cancelled as I knew it was a line they also told me that my card had been credited. Both were a line of Texas Bullwater.
Wish I knew it were that easy to search the BBB. I would have surely done so!
Still waiting for my $ back as we speak!

Message: hi guys-
thanks for all the tips. I actually did check the BBB site on these guys, and saw exactly what GB2000 posted above. It didn't alarm me much at the time, 'cause honestly I have never looked up a business on the BBB that DIDN'T have at least 1 or 2 negative comments; in the business world, chances are you're bound to piss off someone at some point or another. If there had been more negative comments, I would have been more concerned, but 2 in the last year didnt' seem too bad.
Anyway, after checking the UPS site, it shows that my parts did indeed ship, and are due to arrive this friday. Looks like everything is finally in order, although I still have reservations about ever ordering from Racenet again. Will keep you posted when the stuff actually gets here.
Sledge, man I feel for ya. Try calling your bank and telling them that you are expecting a credit from these guys, and ask them to research whether it has even been posted to your card number. They should be able to verify the merchant number from the original purchase transaction. If nothing shows, I'd get on Racenet's ass to recredit, and even let them know you're going to take other actions like the legal methods that we discussed before. Seems like the only way I got any results from them was to stay on top of them everyday. The guy that answers the phone there knows my name by heart... Good luck man.

Since my bank seems to be moving slow as well. I made one more effort. I called Racenet this morning and "Gee" (it is what it sounded like when he said it twice) answered the phone.
I said "Are you the owner?"
He said "No"
I said "I need to speak with the owner"
He asks me who I am. I tell him I'm a customer who has yet to get parts or a credit on non-delivered parts for 2 months.
(Places me on Hold)
Dennis answers the phone. I ask if he is the owner. He tells me that he is. I tell him my info and that I still have not rec'd parts or now a credit.
(He places me on hold to check)
Comes back. Says he has issued the credit. Gives me a confirmation # and tells me I'm all set.
So we'll see. But this may have taken care of it!

Even though the "credit" was issued on 9/21/04 by the "owner" it still has yet to hit my bank. Funny how it only took 1 day to clear when they stole my $ and clear my account. 2 full days later and still nada!
Bank has asked for further clarification on the dispute and it was given today. I'm not sure how many times they think I'm going to believe them to get my $50 bones back!
Bank can go after them now!

Message: Update-
Well, finally received the parts from Racenet last Friday. Dropped the truck off this morning to have new PowerSlot rotors and Hawk pads installed (with Raybestos PG drums and shoes in the back)... lo and behold, the shop just called to tell me that the pads sent from RaceNet are THE WRONG ONES. Needless to say, I'm less than surprised at this point.
Called Racenet to notify them of the mistake, and after having waited over 4-1/2 weeks for them to have gotten the right parts in, turns out that he does have the proper pads IN STOCK, and can ship them out right away... How ridiculous. I can't believe what a fiasco it has been in dealing with these guys. NEVER AGAIN. Next time I'll pay the extra few bucks and order from someone with better customer service.

I'm stunned! My credit was finally issued after talking with the Owner. Sadly it took:
3 Emails to Racenet (all un-returned)
5 Phone calls to Racenet
1 Trip to my Bank
2 Faxes to my Bank
And 2 MONTHS of my time.
Hope you boys enjoyed borrowing my $ for a couple months interest Free!

Message: Hey Guys,
I am from camaro boards, but recently did some business with these jackasses and.... ended up looking for other people with similar experience.
I am yet to get my product. Ordered on 11/11, credit card charged on 11/14. They told me 2 weeks ago it was shipping soon.
Right now their phone doesn't answer (not even voicemail) and website is not there anymore. Wondering if they finally went under.
I am going to give them another week and then I am thinking of making it my little fun project in seeing how many authorities I can report these bastards to including FBI(mail fraud across state lines).
