Subject: Changing color on my R/T
IP: Logged

Message:
My R/T is a black 98 C/C. Where I live we only have a few blacks and whites R/Tīs.....

One of my future plans consists on re-painting all my truckīs body from black color to Solar yellow(99 daks)or Intense blue.

So questions are:

1)Anyone know what is the Solar yellow and Intense blue color codes?

2)I donīt know anything about painting, So What is the best process(painting, drying) to be used and the best product?

3)Whatīs the chance of my truck become a real, true Intense blue or Sollar yellow Dakota without any failures after the process or scratches or anything that suc*ks??

Looking for a perfect job!

Thanks, Guys

The Solar Yellow code for 1999 is PYH.

I was looking to do this when I was shopping for a Dakota. All I could find was black trucks.

If you want it done right the truck has to be taken apart. To me the engine compartment seemed to be a big problem. On a black truck you can probably get away with leaving it black.

I have a friend with a body shop and with me doing some of the work it was going to cost $3000 which I didn't think was a bad price.

I found a Solar Yellow R/T which saved me the trouble of painting a truck.

It would of been neat to have a non stock color. I was going to use the metalic orange Chrysler used on the 2003 special edition PT Crusier.

Thanks for the Solar color code. I will have to think a lot about doing these painting process to my truck.

The black of my truck is like new, because of the good care I put on her.

A lot of you are going to think thatīs nuts, but I avoid taking my truck out of the garage when itīs raining, because of the acid-rain here in Brasil.

Traction, braking or someone loosing control of other vehicle and hiting my beauty is also another big, big problem, especially in raining conditions. Thatīs another factor.

Nice, you find a Solar yellow for you, cool! have fun with her!!!!

How many Solar yellows and Intense blues R/Tīs Did Dodge Make in the US?

BTW, I would like to see a Metalic orange Dakota!

I have also thought about repainting my truck. I have a black 2002 SLT CC. My clear coat is scratched from a bad car wash experience and I thought it would be nice to have it fixed up. The only problem with repainting your truck a different color other than the factory original is that it will show. Unless you pay for a complete strip down, gut out, complete frame paint, it will be easy for someone to know that it isn't original. If you don't care about that then by all means go ahead and paint it. I would choose a custom color, perhaps some sort of pearlescent black or metal flake cherry red. Something completely custom. To simply repaint your truck the color of another factory color, and to pay upwards of $3000 to $4000 to have it done, seems like a waste. You could buy a newer dakota, with the color you want for the same money. If you don't like the color, then sell it, and buy the one you like, and save a little money while your at it. I would strongly encourage you to have a custom color made up for yourself, and perhaps even have some special flake or pearl tint put to it, I think custom colors on Dakotas are too cool for words. I've gone to a local show near me and seen 4 dakotas with professional custom finishes and I couldn't stop drooling. It didnt' matter if they had no other mods or fancy wheels, the color was enough to make green with envy. Just a thought.

1 of the trucks at the show was a Pumpkin orange with a shaded dark red flame through the front. Custom from bumper to bumper... awesome look. I didn't take pictures but I'm sure that if you looked at Cardomain.com and looked up Dakotas there are a few on there with custom jobs. You should go to a Sherwin Williams Automotive paint shop and start talking to them about custom colors and look at some swatches. I've heard that Sherwin Williams can even make a color so custom that it is garaunteed that you will be the only person to ever have it. A summit centerfold car had that done with a special purple, that Sherwin patented and made sure was unique, only cost the guy $8000 for the paint and patent, a lot of money to be sure, but the paint looked fantastic and the car made it into summit didnt it? The possiblities are endless if you have the time and money, and if your going to pay for premium custom paint, have a professional put it on for you. Orange peel on custom paint is just a crime! =)

Intense Blue code is PB3, this color is "intense" that's one of the reasons why I bought my truck. It's a real eye catcher!!

I also like the Amber Fire too, here's 2 daks in that color plus my blue dak.

copy and paste link.

Any difference between codes PA1 and PB3 in blue colors?

Any photos on PA1 trucks?

Antony, Nice truck man! Thanks for the pixs...

I like the Amber Fire color on a Dak too.

Mr. Sleepy, is an orange guy all the way....

Custom Paint job is also an awesome idea, beacause you will have an exclusive truck.

In some cases these different colors get a good look with some decals or stickers..

So, these seems to be a hard choice...

Intense Blue, Solar Yellow or Custom Orange(never saw an orange)Dakota..

Where Can I find a PT Cruiser or Dak on that exclusive Metalic Orange Color?

Go to www.cardomain.com and select PT Cruisers, you should find one.

It is a gold/orange color, only available on 2003 models.
