Subject: Fluid Leak
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2001 4.7l Quad Cab. In the last 6 weeks I have seen spots on the driveway after the truck sits for an extended period of time. I have checked oil and transmission fluid levels and have seen no drop off. I have had it into the 2 separate Non-dealer mechanics each saying they couldn't find anything. Now, I know there are spots on my driveway. Any ideas about where the fluid is coming from?

First off, what kind of fluid is it? Oil, gas, water, trans? Until you figure that out, you're just guessing.

Next, clean the suspect are extremly well with a high pressure washer and a good degreaser. Do it a couple of times to make sure it's really clean. Leave the hood open, and let it sit for a day or two to be sure that it's completly dry.

Now sprinkle a little corn starch around the suspect areas. Run the engine, and watch for the corn starch to change color, indicating a fluid leak. Rinsing with water will remove the corn starch.
