Subject: New Dakota Patriot Blue - waxing streaks
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey again,

Are there any good detailers who can help me?

I just finished waxing my new Dakota (Patriot Blue)and I struggled for 2 hrs rubbing to try to get the circular rub marks out. Does anyone else have this colour who is having a similar problem. If so do you have a solution.
Maybe it is my wax. I used a new bottle of Turtle wax after washing it with Turtle wax-Zip washing soap.

Our other vehicle is black and it isn't hard to wax!

Any suggestions?

hey yeah my dak is the dark purple color... its a bitch to wax... Its not your wax, the paint on dakotas is kinda cheap and it takes me twice as long to wax my dakota than my f-350 to get the streaks out... good luck

Takes me about an hour to get truck really clean. each step takes about 25 minutes to apply, let it sit about 30-60 min to dry and then another 30 to remove. all in all it depends how many coats you want to put on. I usually use about 2 or 3 coats of z-5 for swirls fine scratches, and then one or two coats of z-2 for the hi gloss finish. it usually takes one long day or two days. I like to take my time and since you can leave the stuff on over night with no worries it makes the job really easy.
I heard about zaino at this site and then went to
www.zaino.com where I learned to use the stuff and have been really pleased ever since.

Hope this helps any other question just ask.

Try some rubbing alcohol careful not hitting the paint. I use an old toothbrush to get in the textured finish real good.

I'd like to try something better but the Zaino seems like it would take forever! Who has that kind of time?
If that is the only solution I guess I'll give it a shot!
As for the door handles, I have wax on them as well that hasn't yet come out.
Other than that...the truck is great so far.
Just filled up my 3rd tank of gas!

Try Simple Green and the toothbrush to remove the
gunk on the door handles. It is not quite so touchy as
Dawn or rubbing alcohol.

AM You are gonna have to strip the carnuba wax off your truck (with Liquid dawn) and then cover it with zanio I live in the mid west and with winter around the corner I used this long weekend to put 4 coats of zanio on my truck. that will hopefully take me through the winter months.
I had to use the clay bar on the fender flares and behind each tire right next to the pinch welds under the truck to get off a million tiny little paint droplets. I drove over the white lines one day when they were restriping the roads. Looks good now though.

You are gonna be filling that thing up with gas often like the rest of us. I waited until I hit 5000 miles and switched over to Mobil 1 and gained about 1-2 miles per gallon. switched out the rear diff with mobil 1 syn and it helped as well.

I waxed it 2 days ago now. The rub marks were still bothering me so I washed it again this morning, shammied it, and let it dry for a bit.
Then I went over the marks I was talking about again with a soft cloth, as if I was rubbing the wax off again and it worked!

Maybe just wax once and rub off twice(1 day apart) is the solution. It worked this time!
Happier now but was concerned for a while!

The colder weather is coming so I will be waxing once more before Spring...probably at the end of October.

Thanks for the good advice. I'm glad I stumbled across this message board!
