I have a 96 Dakota 4x4 short box regular cab 318 stick. I want to convert it to a 440 4 speed once it dies which is easier said than done! I'm a die hard mopar fan and as we all know mopars are good vehicles. But i've been trying to break mine for time now to give me a reason to go through w/the big block conversion. I hit the rev limiter daily through the first 3 gears and she keeps on taking it, now tires on the other hand.. Eventually she'll break and i'm wondering if anyone on this forum has ever gone through w/this?? I'm sure some of you ask why a 4x4, right? Well i'm thinking I'll have more room because i'll drop the front diff. and i'll seperate the ends of the axle shafts at the cv joints and leave them in to hold the bearings and all together. That should leave me a wide open space to work with, right? If theirs a flaw in this plan can someone enlighten me!?!?

there are kits out there for the genII big block swap but they are 2wd. I dont know of anybody that has done a 4x4 swap because of the massive transfer case. You would probably also have to do a solid axle swap to get everything to fit.

why break the old motor? sell it running to get parts for the new one.

6.6 Lt. Big Block, 727 TF shift kit, 452 heads, edelbrock 750 cfm, .513/.513 284/300 crower cam, comp cams springs, comp cams pushrods, 1.5 roller rockers, dp intake, mopar ignition, mopar windage tray, dual exhaust w/ 40 series flowmasters, 4.10 gears, coilover drag suspension, approx, 3500 lbs
