Subject: leaking rear axel IP: Logged
Message: I have a simple question. I have a 2000, with a LSD rear end, and i notice that there was oil leaking from a rubber plug located on the backside of the housing. Is the rear end vented and if so has any one taken apart and clean this vent? Is there any thing to buy or replace?
Cann't find any other posting that relate to this.
Any help would be helpful

Message: lol,
That rubber plug is what you take out to change your rear diff fluid. Take out the plug, then use a pump to pump out the old oil. The replace with new thru the same hole.
If you have too much oil. It could seep out of that plug.
But just to make sure, take that plug out, if there is any oil seeping out, you have to much. If there isn't any oil seeping out. Make sure that the oil is filled close to that plug. Then change your plug, Because, it's probably old.

Message: It's probably nothing, but fastyz400 is right; change that oil. The best way to do that is in the Clymer or Hayes manual (you do have one, right?), or we can post on how to do it. Easier than changing engine oil, less than an hour. In either case, yes the diff is vented, but that rubber plug has been holding in oil for 4 years now, and it's due for retirement. Contact your local stealership for a replacement.
