Subject: My headlights suck IP: Logged
Message: 98 R/T with cheap superwhites. Lighting is still horrible. I attribute part of the problem to my clouded glass lenses.
What are my options? Anyone else have this trouble? I need more candle power

Message: First off, polish those lenses. Otherwise, everything else you do will be comprimised.
Second, get a quality set of bulbs, of your flavor. Stay away from the cheap blue lamps the the kids like so much. They really make things worse.
Personally, I have PIAA's in my '01, and I really like them. The stock lamps were pretty good; better than my '95 Ram. But the PIAA's are a noticable improvement.

Message: Polish? Would that be the inside or the out? The inside seems to be where the problem is. They are glass, right?

Message: The lenses are discoloured on the OUTSIDE. Use Turtle Wax heavy (red) rubbing compound, and polish them FIRMLY by hand with a towel. Don't go breaking the lense, but it's a strong piece so don't be a pansy with it. Once you've removed most or all of the discolouration, use light rubbing (green) compound to get out some of the scratches left by the red stuff. It'll never be 100%, but you can get 85-90% of it off.
This can be done with the fog lights too, as well as any other Chrysler light that's yellowed over (Neon and Intrepid are common culprits). The result is more light on the road, and a much cleaner looking vehicle.
For serious lighting enhansment, look into 5-6" round lights from Piaa or Hella. They come in narrow beam and are much more focused than stock for safer highway driving. A pair on the front bumper really helped my buddies Ranger.

Message: then when you are done spray them with a coat of clearcoat paint did it on my sable and stopped it from coming back for 2 years now. use sylvania silverstar bulbs they are just about 40 bucks and the cost of a can of pepsi at wallmart more (sometimes much more) from other retailers and are DOT street legal and ate just 100 degrees lelvin shy of HID lights. They are very bright and I have had more then a few flaash at me, but I am legal. When traveling on the freeway at night I can light up overhead signs from a mile or more away with the brights, I can't read them naturaly but I can see their reflection.

kelvin is a scientific way to give light a "degree" of brightness HID lights are 4200 degrees and S SilverStars are 4100, bright daylight at hi noon is 5000 normal halogens are 2700

Message: yeah, this plastic lenses suck. polishing is the best option compared to the cost of replacement, if they are really bad, I mean almost white in appearance, start with a watered down silver metal polish. Its soft enough to not scratch deep, but good enough to remove the deepest oxidation.... then continue with the polishes mentioned above. the causes are from either bugs meeting their fate at your lense, and/or (too much) direct sunlight, amongst all the other chemicals in the atmosphere, they eventually start to oxidize. Cheap crap if you ask me. Those clear GTS headlight covers do well to prevent most of this damage...
