Message: Not an R/T owner, but I'll chime in. You're looking at it like any other vehicle; general body condition, specific problems, tire condition, interior, engine. The 5.9 is a good engine that easily runs over 100k, if it's well maintained & not beat up.
When buying a higher-end vehicle, (and I consider a late model R/T high-end) I recommend taking it to a chain garage for a compression test. $100 invested to know the internal health of the motor is money well spent. You also want to start the motor COLD, to hear any excessive clearance problems in the engine. Any tapping or knocking should be avoided.
Cheers,

Message: I have a 99 R/T reg. cab and love it. If the trucks in good shape I would get it. As for what to look for, Noltz said it, listen for wierd engine noises, also look at the top of the cab to see how the paint looks, it will tell how much the truck sat out in the sun. Also ask lots of questions-how often the oil was changed-trans fluid-brake pads, things like that. good luck!
