Subject: first there was a loud klunk IP: Logged
Message: and then the rear wheels locked up and drug for a block while i was doing 85 down the freeway this morning looking to buy a new transmission for a decent price i would perfer a a518 or a500 but if any one has a TF-727 i would realy apriceiate a responce willing to pay around 650 for a good usable trans without having to tear it down and rebuild

Message: are you sure it's the tranny?? have you dropped the pan? reason i ask is that the exact same thing happened to me. turned out to be the spider gear assy in the diff. you might want to pull the diff cover and have a look.

Message: yea im sure it was the trans i just replaced the differential with a detroit locker its all fresh plus the trans is the factory a-500 out of my 90 dakota it wasent ment to handel the torque of the moster 390 i put in it.

Message: Well. At least drop the drive shaft and see what turns, and what does NOT turn. Tanny's usually don;t lock up. But rear diffs do.
Maybe something was not torqued in that rear end when it was done. Like that little bolt that keeps the pin in place in between the axles.

Message: yea i got to thinking bought that i did do the diff my self so i could have forgot somthing so i had it towed to work put it on the lift and removed the drive shaft the diff cover and the trans pan, the diff was fine the trans pan had a crapload of cluch and metal shavings, so i droped the trans and started to pull it apart when my shop forman comes over and starts helping me and tells me whoever put it together had one of the bands tightend to tight. and since i just used it to putt around town i never actualy saw 4th gear . thats why it locked up when it shifted in to forth.
