Message: I have a 2000 c.c. 4x4 4.7 automatic. Does the transmission shift rough between second and third on all the dakotas, or is mine the only one? I had it into the dealer and they said they updated the "p.c.m." or "t.c.m." or whatever its called, but it doesnt shift any better. Anybody have this problem?

Message: I have heard of others having that complaint. Mine doesn't really do it...occasionally I get a harsh shift into drive or reverse from park (only when really cold or if I've been revving the engine in neutral or park...God I love that sound!), and every now and then I get a bit of a stutter on the 2-3 shift, but nothing bad. When I do get that stutter, it almost feels like the computer is throwing the transmission quickly into and out of the "other" 2nd gear before going into third. It doesn't bother me since it happens infrequently and it usually happens after I've been doing some really aggressive driving (lots of large, quick changes in throttle position to move around idots in traffic), so I just kinda write it off as a momentary indecision of the computer.
I think there is a TSB out on rough shifting multi-speed automatics, but I haven't looked into it myself. 99% of the time my multi-speed shifts much better than the 4-speed autos paired to the 318 and 360, so I don't worry about it. (did I just open myself up for a roasting by lovers of the old automatic? Damn!) But if the harshness is fairly consistent and very noticeable, you should have it checked by the dealer. That's what the warranty is for.

Message: I have been bitching about that problem since i
got my truck over a yr ago....i am used to fords
so i figured it was just me, but others haev said
the same thing, after 3 times to the shop and 2
out of the 3 they told me nothing was wrong the
tranny guy finally got to see the truck, and found
a glitch with the tranny software in the PCM, but
it never really took care of the problem. NOw that
they flashed the PCM the new problem of decreased
gas mileage has been there for a long time....and
there is no fix for that so far!!!! So if you
could haev avoided the flash to the PCM i would
have said to leave it alone, if it breaks then it
is at least under warranty!!!

Message: The Dodge dealer installed a new compter in my '96 3.9 4X2 automatic and I have experienced a decrease in gas mileage. Is it because of the "new" software they installed to supposedly take care of a spark knock problem that didn't exist? Did they have to flash the new computer? I can't seem to find anyone that can tell me why my gas mileage dropped off so suddenly. Also what is the difference between the orginial software, and the new.

Message: The difference in the software is that they either
advanced or retarded(don't know for sure) the
timeing to supposedly get rid of the knock that
had occurred with the 4.7L engines....but like in
my instance i did not have the knock, but i had
the tranny problem...so they couldn't just flash
the tranny part they have to do the whole
program....and there for the change in timing =
change in gas mileage usually a decrease..... :(

Message: When accelerating normally the tranny on my 99 Dakota 318 shifts smoothly. When I push her down the shifts are hard and rough and it seems to shift too early. Gas mileage is not good either. Any help is appreciated.

Message: I have a 99 too. Mine seems to shift rough in b/t 1st and 2nd, and when I shift into drive and reverse. but if I hold the brake down harder b/t shifts they aren't as bad.
Jim, do you have the Club Cab?
