Subject: Cloth drooping from the cab roof (help)
IP: Logged

Message:
Ok, the cloth from overhead in my cab was sagging badly, so I ripped it out. (it was already ripped anyway, so I just said screw it)

The question I have is suggestions on how to replace it myself......or where to go to get it replaced. Thanks.

I had to have mine done...find a headliner or upholstery shop in your area. They will drop the headliner board out of your truck, clean it and apray-adhesive new cloth on the board and re-install it. Mine looks better than it did before it fell down!
I've also seen headliner kits on eBay, but I don't have any experience with them. Some shops will put new fabric on your board if you drop it and bring it in to them, but you have to be careful not to crack or break it. (Sometimes they get brittle from the heat radiating in thru the roof.)
Shops around here charge about $40.00 to do the whole job, and they warranty it.

My better half and I just re-did our little
"Chick Magnet" 79 AMC Concord wagon. We went to
a fabric store picked out what we wanted and used
3M spray on glue.

Has to be even a easier job with a smaller
headliner.

Try it yourself, it's not that bad of a job.

I had mine done once by an old guy out in the middle of no where. All they used was cloth with foam backing (he told me you can get at almost any fabric store) and 3M adhesive spray. Although his spray was in a spray gun he said the can would also work for smaller jobs.

Is it hard to get the headliner off? What would be the best way to do it? Thanks

It's easy to pull the complete headliner out, spt.
Most times pulling piller and side molding screws
off, dome lights taken down, close hooks removed
and you'll soon see how it was held up. Oh, remove
sun visors also.

Belive me, I never did it before untill my 79 AMC
needed it done. I was kicking myself in da A$$ for
not doing the EASY job a lot sooner. I could have
saved the old cloth if I wound have tackeled the
job right away.

Good luck to all of you!
