OK so one week I find an abandoned construction site in Vermont and I treat my truck like it's in a Dakar rally for a week. And after a week's worth of light to medium off roading in mud, sand, hard dirt, and steep rocky hills with big breakover angles, it drives home smooth as brand new. Then Im on the city street and I jump one a high curb to get out of the way of an emergency vehicle and I end up with an instant automatic steering wheel hand massage at 70 mph and above. Go figure. Just had my wheels rebalanced for the 3rd time.

have them look at the wheel as it spins. You can balance a bent wheel but you may feel it at different speeds

A broken belt in the tire can also cause this problem. Check the rim to see if it's true or not, and if it is true suspect the tire.

You'd notice an out of balance wheel at all speeds. Have the alignment checked--the truck's probably out of alignment.

Nick, you're not entirely correct there. A wheel balance will only be felt at higher speeds. A belt break or shift could be felt at different speeds, ie: from 30 to 50 it shakes, above or below it's fine.

After the balance, I cruised at everything from 70 to 80 mph flat, drove like butter. Shimmy is all gone. I think however that front suspension is engineered to give you that nice cushy ride also translates all suspension impacts more harshly to the wear and tear items.
