Subject: rear end.... whats this mean? IP: Logged
Message: i have 3.55 open diff rear end on a 4x4 99 pickup... it has 80,000 miles on it and just recently between 35 and 55 mph i now have my rear end wine.. and its getting louder... so i am gonig into the dealer to get aftermarket brakes put on for free, so should i have them replace the rear diff fluid while they are at it? is that all it usually takes?

Message: if it's noticable to one side of the axle (like left wheel or right wheel) it's probably an alxe bearing... if not, probably the pinion bearing.

Message: I just finished doing both wheel bearings and seals on my 98 Dak. The parts are cheap enough (less than $10 for each side). I borrowed a slide hammer with a bearing end and it took about 2 hours for both sides. If its the pinion bearing, then you will require some professional help as this requires tools to set the pinion depth and backlash adjustment.
