Subject: Dakota towing proof. IP: Logged
Message: Here's a story that shows why I love my 4x4 Dakota.
A plumber's full-size van got stuck up to his sliding door sill in a pool of mud at a construction site nearby. His front ,still on dry ground.Truck loaded with gear.
I offer to help, pull in front, attach his front to my hitch with 15 feet of 2 inch chain.
Stick it in 4 low and tell him to make sure he's in drive.
Pulled him out of the hole and dragged him 12 feet no problem. Yes, I said dragged him. His front wheels were at full lock in the opposite direction to my Dakota's direction of travel.
2001 4.7L, 4x4 QC, auto, Bridgestone Deuler A/T revo tires.
No sweat, all pride.

Message: That thing got a Hemi? Nope, but the 4.7 did the
job!
Mine is the same as yours but a 02. The ONLY
thing I dislike about it is the auto tranny.
In and out of OD all the time in one word, sucks!

Message: I'd have that OD checked out.
It shouldn't be hunting like that.
I hade a module go on mine that kept it out of OD at all times. Replaced under warranty.
Your problem may be related.

Message: Sure that was 2" chain ? Chain is measured by its thickness, not the length of the link. Good job though !
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: Sorry, My ignorance. It is a chain comprised of links roughly 3/8 inch thick and 2 inches long each.
To add..it's surprising how dumb some people are when you have to tow them out of trouble.
Like having the front wheels turned in the wrong direction ,as this guy had.
I've pulled 5 other people out of "stuck in snow " situations in the past 3 years. (It's easier then in the dirt, b t w.)
One was driving a Neon with tires so bald I thought they were slicks.
A Civic owner kept his parking brake on.
A full size 2wd Ram owner left hers in park as I pulled her back onto the road.
I guess I'll just assume their stupid from now on and tell them what to do step by step.....or maybe I'll just stop , laugh, and leave.

Message: Also to radioman, My dak does not do that either. I driven 80K miles in two years and can hardly tell when shifting, and only shifted when needed.
I also have helped people hammerdak, my fav was a guy who couldnt start his car after stalling. He had kids with him on a busy road. I checked his connectioins and the basics to no avail. Tried jump start to no avail. I decided to check the car myself and the dumbarce didnt have it in park. Car started and off he went. Heres your sign!
