Subject: clunk when I hit a bump?? IP: Logged
Message: I have a question for you guys. I have a 00 4x4 CC dak with the 4.7When ever I hit a dip in the road in my truck hard enough to send the front end back up to take the weight off the suspension, there is a loud clunk coming from the front end. I have a lift kit, but I checked all the bolts. Could it be the ball joint problem I have heard sooooo many horror stories about???

Message: I replaced my shocks and the replacements were not close to the stock shocks. When I hit bumps it nothing like when it had the original shocks. It hits hard. Hope it may help.

Message: Could also be anti-sway bar bushing.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: I have aftermarket shocks, Rancho 9000's, and have had them for a while now, and the problem just receintly started. I checked the anti-sway bar too. How would I check the ball joints myself?

Message: Did you check the position of the swaybar?
I am assuming that you have removed it before, but if not, the bar can shift from side to side.
the clunk that Kowalski is referencing can be felt through the floor board and happens mostly when the wheels are slightly turned. (well documented at my dealership.)
The reason the clunk can be felt is because the sway bar is curved and when it slides to one side the curve is closer to the frame. When the suspension travels it will contact the frame...hence the clunk and the felt vibration.
best way to check is to drop the bar and inspect for rust or worn paint.
I am not saying it is not the ball joints, but typically you don't feel them when they go bad, you inspect them to find out if they are good or bad.
good luck

Message: would I feel the sway bar through the steering wheel too? I do feel it in the floor board but mostly in the steering wheel. It feels and sounds like it is coming more from the passenger side then driver's. Thanks for the help.
