Message: DaimlerChrysler Corporation Models: Dodge Dakota Years: 2002-2004
Dodge Durango Years: 2002-2003
Number Potentially Involved: 320,188
Dates of Manufacture: April 2002 – September 2003
Defect: On certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, the front windshield wiper module motor may be susceptible to water intrusion that could cause internal corrosion and result in partial or complete loss of front windshield wiping capability. Driver visibility could be reduced, which could result in a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the front windshield wiper module. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification is expected to begin during July 2004. Owners may contact DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

Message: I don't know about you, but it makes me mad that they would bother with a recall for windshield wipers, but they still won't take responsibility for the ball joint issue that's much more likely to get someone killed. How many accidents and CBS evening news pieces does it take???? As a resonable person, and a once loyal dodge fan, I'm really having a hard time with the money mongering, anything to make a buck, company dodge has become. I used to love my 2000 Quad Cab, but if a company is willing to risk the lives of my family for a few bucks... well, maybe it's time to start boycotting dodge. I have been a dodge fan for decades and a Quad cab owner for 3yrs, but I'm starting to think it's time to realize what dodge has become...

Message: If you've really been a Dodge fan for decades, you might remember that during the muscle car era, Mopar used to break the zerk fittings off at the factory and promote their product as requiring less service. Result - they had a reputation for front end problems back then, too. Ford has a reputation for bad transmissions and quality control; GM has a reputation for other problems (loose motor tolerances, bad rear ends, etc.) - everything out there has an achilles heel. I don't feel unsafe myself; loose ball joints give warning signs (tire wear, loose steering feel). Its not like the early (mid '60s) A body cars that had underengineered ball joints that would just snap. It would still be nice if they'd recognize the problem and give us greasable ball joints though.
