Subject: Door hinge pin removal on 92 Dak IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know any tricks for removing the door hinge pins that doesn't involve beating the hell out of them? I had to buy a new door for my 92 dak and the replacement (salvage yard) door needs new hinges badly. I have them but can't get the old hinge pins removed from the old door. The metal behind the hinge welds is so thin I'm afraid I will rip the door-side hinges right off the door if I try to drive the pins out. Does anyone know of a tool for this that works?

Message: First, I'm assuming you can get the pins out of your current door.
Your solution is heat. Bring the door to a small garage with torches, they can heat the area around the pin up, and tap it out. You'll probably want to sandpaper the holes up, then paint up what got burnt by the torches. Grease heavily & install.

Message: do ya, actually the replacement door is in excellent condition. The door shell to which the door side hinges are welded is very very thin and the factory weld points leave much to be desired.
I'm going to try the heat trick. That makes sense. Sounds like it will work. Thanks Eric N.
