Message: i have had a very similar problem in a 99 dakota. Try this............disconnect the battery for about 30 seconds or so then hook it back up. This may reset the system and your systen may regain power. If you system is similar to mine ( a factory 6 disc changer mounted under the seat ) then this may help your situation. I have been told is is a problem that is rooted in the radio itself. I have since changed my radio to a standard single cd player ( non factory model ) and have not had the problem since. Lemme know what happens for ya and if I can be of assistance ! Goood Luck !

Message: My '01 unit did the same thing. It also caused my instrument cluster to go haywire because it was connected to a main buswire. Seems like a common problem, so I'd recommend getting another one. If you go with a factory unit, be sure it has the two-connector black&gray setup. Removing the dashcover is no big deal. Do a search on this forum and you'll find some detailed instructions on how to do it.

Message: My 2001 stereo died a few months after I bought it. The whole head unit had to be replaced (under waranty of course). It turns out that Dodge had quite a few 01 stereo's die so they chnaged suppliers for 02. This was one of the AM/FM/Cassette with CD changer controls.

Message: sluggo -> thanks for the advice. the radio works again, although I didn't disconnect the battery like you suggested. it may have reset itself when I pulled the fuses and left them out for a while(probably same effect as disconnecting battery).
04sport -> thanks for the offer. if the radio goes again I'll probably replace with a nice alpine system or something (trying to stay away from the factory units based on this experience)

Message: My radio has an even stranger problem. When I push the parking brake in or release it, I sometimes loose sound to all the speakers. The radio is still on (I have an aftermarket radio with dancing VU meter LEDs so I know its still working) but there is no sound at all. If I hit a large enough bump, it might come back on. If I leave it alone for a while, it comes back as well. As far as I can tell, there is a master connector under the dash near the parking break/break release and its just on the verge of falling out - but darned if I can find it! I have searched for ever to find it (upside down under the dash) to no avail. Its even harder since I have a standard cab and with the seat back as far as possible, I only just barely fit in upside down (theres an image for you).
I know its not the same, but I thought it might help someone....
