Message: Chevy has decided to go ahead and produce the Colorado with a 6 Litre V8. Comes stock with hi-flow headers and true dual exhaust. High performance brakes, disc all around. Extra wide tires and a turbo/supercharge option. We're talking 350hp out of a midsize truck stock. Given the lighter body weight and the agressive stance with new chassis this might blow anything we have out of the water. Dodge needs to put that 5.7 in the Dakota or it may lose out on this battle to old school chevy technology. I have seen this new colorado with my own eyes.

Really though, how can the Hemi not fit in the new Dakota, it's the same front as the new Durango's, and what do they have in them??
2002 QC 4x4 Sport Plus, 4.7L, auto, Patriot Blue, Tire & Handling group, Heavy Duty Service group, Leer cap w/out windows, Mopar Step bars and roof rack, Rhino liner in bed and on step bars, Pace Edwards Power Tailgate lock 3.55 rear, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, all possible fluids are AMSOIL

Message: I will admit these trucks will probably be nice but they will not look as sharp as our trucks. Just like the ford lighting is nice this truck will be also. However you can bet your ass chevy is going to build the parts for this truck as cheap as possible. Most ford lightnings that you see with lots of mods have actually changed their "tuned dual exhaust" and their "supercharger" Simply because no matter how nice of a stock truck you have, the aftermarket parts available will always blow the manufacurers stuff away. I cant wait to see the quality of these headers and the inside of the engine. It sounds like a gimmick to all those people who dont know how or even dont want to learn about mechanics so they buy something thats already fast thinking they will beat everybody. Oh well, my supercharged dak will still smoke these things all day and will get more looks so im not worried.

Message: Uhhh, did you notice that they had to GREATLY increase the size of the Durango???? That's because the old body style couldn't handle the height of the HEMI. The 5.7 HEMI will go too far into the cowl/windshield of a Dakota. Not saying it wouldn't work, but you'd have to do extensive changes to a Dakota to make it fit.

Come on. For years Chevy didn;t even put dual exhaust on sh*t except for Corvettes!
Every single one of those Firebird/Camero/Monte Carlo SS, etc V8's had FAKE dual exhaust since the 80's.
At least Ford (except for RARE cars) had true duals when the pipes came out the rear as dual.
Chevy is cheap and lazy. I agree with the guy who said "...but like gm they are showing you what they can do but wont ever make it

Message: Chevy's website currently shows the Colorado is available with either a 4-banger or an inline 5. Edmunds.com says the 2005 is available in these two engines only, and that a 6 or 8 cylinder engine in not available. Appears there's no need to worry about a 350hp V8 in the Colorado.

Message: I do know for a fact that there will be an ss colorado released late 2005. Turbo or supercharger will be used. I have read this in many mags and chevy themselves said it. I really like the look of the colorodo sport zq8. My friend has the reg cab zq8 with the inline 5 and 5speed manual. Fun as hell to drive. It does not have alot of torque down low but it will start to spin very easily. I like it.

Message: It may have the same kind of appearance as the Durango, but I doubt it's going to be close to the same size (height wise), though the new Dakota's are 3.7" longer than the Gen 3's. Reason I say that is if you make the Dakota the same size as the Durange, that makes it the same size as the Ram 1500, so it's really no longer a compact (mid-size technically) pick-up, and no sense having it the same size as the Ram 1500. However, the 3.7" is primiarily in front of the front axle, so that *might* give them the room needed to drop in a HEMI, because maybe then it won't be hitting up against the cowl.
Hmmm.. 6.1 HEMI Dakota R/T anyone?? :-)

Message: Can't fit a 5.7hemi?? what?? as I recall, the cuurent body style could hold a 5.9. Sure the Hemi's a bit different but it can't be that much bigger. Heck, Hot Rod stuffed a 8.0 v-10 in a Dak with full ac and everything without too much hassle.
As for Chevy, they always have cool ideas and don't deliver. the only exception is the c5 and c6 Vettes, which are awesome. Even the new 1/2 ton "ss" trucks are just 6.0 litre, $40K, and slow. chevy hasn't made a decent sport truck for over a decade. If they do, great, we need more competition to improve the breed!

Message: Several companies have already tried. Again, the HEMI is taller then the 5.9, it won't fit in the current dakota, several have already tried (not without serious modifications to the Dakota).

Message: smoke29, just make sure your friend doesn't put an exhaust on his 5 banger.
I heard one and that's one engine that should remain QUIET! It sounds like sh*t. Maybe worse than the small V6 in our late Cirrus I put a flowmaster on. And quickly removed. My wife was embaressed.
There's just something about the V8 sound. I even think the V10 trucks sound like inline sixes. Crappy. Stick with the V8.
