Subject: AC blows cold air only on one side?? IP: Logged
Message: (I accidently posted this is the Performance Section also)
My 2001 Dak has just developed an AC problem.
The air coming out of the driver side AC vents is cold. The air coming out of the passenger vents (both the one right by the radio and next to the window) is warm!!
Does this description indicate a known defect such as a vacuum leak or defective actuator or whatever??
Thanks
Bill

Message: might be a clogged vent hose or something. is the volume of air the same? (velocity of air the same)
thats one odd problem.. what really sux is that you're only going to find and fix it by rummaging around under the dash, which is always "really fun" (quotation to note sacarism) I'd see if I could find a haynes or some type of manual that has a layout of the dash, and HVAC set-up... further than that I;m sorry I can't help much further.... I work as a mechanic, and have a really good Dodge technician that works at my shop, I'll grille him.... uh, no pun intended, to see if he might have an idea. he's usually really good with A/C problems, I;ll check back after I talk to him, and let you know....it'll be after monday...

Message: Above the heater core there is a flap that regulates temp. It is made from two peices. One flap for the left and one for the right, they are joined by a common shaft. the shaft or the flap must have broke. It is controlled by one motor. I had to change my heater core last year. You have to evac the ac and remove the dash to get to it. Its not that that bad of a job, but you have to tkae alot of stuff out to get to it. ( well more like everything )

Message: I got some advice on a different board that said the gas was probably low in the system. I didn't think that would be the problem because of the extreme temperature variation coming out of the drive side and passenger side vents. I was assured that this is a common occurance in Dodge Trucks with low gas.
Well I added a small amount (i/2 can) of 134 gas and it started working perfectly again. Both sides are now blowing cold air of the same temperature.

Message: Cool. Glad it was an easy fix. I wouldn't think that would fix it either. Good info to remember.
