when i bought my '01 dak, i noticed the hood insulation was missing. should the dealer supply one? will the heat affect the paint on the hood--long term?

The omisison of the hood insulation was one of DC's cost saving measures. You might be able to squeeze one out of the dealer if you press hard enuff. All depends on the dealer, I reckon.
As far as paint damage goes --- I doubt it.

When I ordered my truck, I had them fax me a list of what I was ordering to make sure it had everything I wanted. I showed them that fax and it states in the SLT pkg that the hood insulation is part of it. What can they say? If they fuss about it, I'll take them to small claims court. Easy one to win with the fax. Now, if all you have is the brochure, you might have an issue since I'm sure there's some small print somewhere that states changes can be made at any time.

If you look on the fold out page at the back of the brochure there is a disclaimer with enough legal BS written there to get DC out of anything.Don't be too concerned about the paint as hood insulation is more for noise reduction than anything else. But if you press the dealer who knows what will happen,

I have a 97 SLT with insulation and an 01 without. I can tell you that I have not noticed any difference in noise levels or temperture differences between the 2.
Early in the year, around January, DC changed the specs on the SLT on the website. The change deleted the hood insulation. I did a check on this because I wanted to know what to expect. After all, you cannot trust a DC dealer to perform a proper pre delivery check so you have too.
There is a bigger change that occured that I find more significant but no one seems to comment on, they changed the gas tank from 22 gallions to 20 gallions. Why? Who knows.

My '01 SLT 2wd 4.7 5-speed came with the rams head insulation it was made august 2000.

anyone know where I can get the silver aluminum looking hood insulation stuff?
I took the black one off and think the silver may look better if I
cut it to fit.
