Subject: Spray on bed liners
IP: Logged

Message:
I just bought a 2001 dakota that I am going to have a Rhino spray on liner applied. The truck bed definetely was "used" and has a number of scratches and wear in it.

Can anyone tell me if there is any special care I should take before having the liner sprayed on? Will the scratches matter? Will minor surface rust need to be treated first? Is this all stuff the dealer should be taking care of when they apply it?

Thanks!

I have a linex and chose it because it was a little tougher than the rhino. The rhino is more rubbery and seemed like it might be damaged easier than the harder linex. Nothing slides on mine, period...But not trying to talk you out of the rhino, just offering my opinion and experience. The scratches won't matter because they are going to take a grinder to your bed and any other part of the truck that will be having liner sprayed on it. I had them go up over the rails of mine, and now I don't have to worry about scratching it up loading things. The rust shouldn't be a problem as it should be removed with the grinding. My truck had a drop in when I bought it and the bed was pretty trashed, dents, peeling paint, rust you name it. Those drop ins are worthless!! I didn't have any problems with mine. It is the best investment I have made to date, and at $500 it is an investment. Hope you are as happy with your rhino!!

I agree, and when I bought my Linex spray on in 2000 in cost 425.00 and well worth it. I have not really done anything to it and it still looks great, maybe a little faded. Over the rail in my opinion is the way to go it's well worth the bucks!

Here in the HOuston area, I had a PermaTech applied. LIke others, it has lifetime warranty against any defects.

I think they used some sort of high grade solvent on the paint to take the clear off, and applied the spray on. I went to get a beer and didn't watch the whole thing. They didn't grind anything.

It's been years, no problems.

It only cost $300, for a over the rail spray on, w/ warranty.

I have an over the rail, Rhino Liner in my truck. Haven't had any experience with any other types, but I love the Rhino Liner. It was on the truck when I bought it, but from now on I am going to go back to them, as well as send my friends. I have not had any problems, nothing moves around, and it seems indestructable. I has faded a bit, the truck is an 02, and I bought it a year used, but it still looks damn good. It's all about personal preferance though. They can also put down designs so when they spray on the liner the design is raised up on the bed. I always thought the dodge logo would look sick real big on the bed of the truck. Again just personal preference.

Definately go Line-X.. They look 10 times better than any other liners. It is more of a "smooth" look than the black cottage cheese look of the Rhino or Ziebarts. I have had mine for a year + and it has held up under Truckloads of sand, patio block, bushes and shrubs, and cargo of all kinds.
